Roku app crashing

This is happening consistently for me across multiple Roku’s. Appears to be isolated to TV libraries for some reason. My movie library is streaming just fine on all Roku’s. This morning has proved the issue has become debilitating, as we can’t get 5-10 minutes into a show without it crashing back to the Roku home screen. My PMS is up to date, Roku has no system updates and my Plex app on my Roku’s are all up to date.

I’ve tried some library troubleshooting and restarting my PMS to ensure it’s not a hardware or settings issue, but this is only happening on Roku devices. Web, Mobile, and Fire TV Sticks aren’t exhibiting the same problem.

after installing https://my.roku.com/account/add?channel=plexpreview by going through the roku website and running plex preview app instead i have not had any issues and will use this for the time being until the original plex app is fixed. i don’t know what the plex preview app is for but it looks identical to plex app if your still having issues then this might be a temporary solution for you too

hi, i have two roku 3’s and today they both started doing this. I have factory reset them and reinstalled the app and it made no difference.
has anyone got a solution to this problem?

it does it on films and tv series, so makes no difference what im trying to watch. I have tried turning off direct stream and that again had no effect?

plex preview app still working no problems perhaps give that ago also link in my last post just need to loggin to roku and it will download to your roku device

dseitz, thank you for that info. I have installed this version on both my roku’s and they are now both stable again.
There is obviously an issue with the plex app and the last update. I haven’t even uninstalled the plex app, i just used the link above and added the plex preview app to my channels. so far so good!

For what it’s worth, I am now doing fine after simply removing the Plex channel on my Roku and then re-adding it. I’ve watched a steady couple of episodes with no issues now.

Restored a copy of Plex Media Server for a 5 day old backup and even though it says it is the same version number, the problem has disappeared.

If anyone is able to replicate this still, please let us know. We’d like to verify whatever is crashing was actually fixed in the Preview version. The preview version is being reviewed by Roku for official release as of last week.

Same that fixed it for me. Removing the Plex channel on Roku and adding it back. If it happens to me again, I’ll get the preview version and report back. But this issue hasn’t popped back up at all since early this morning. I’ve had a tv show on autoplay and it hasn’t crashed.

I haven’t installed the Preview version, and I haven’t seen the problem since this morning. It was totally consistent for an hour or so, then it stopped completely without my doing anything.

Yup - I’ve now been watching it non-stop for most of the past 9 hours without a problem.

Hi ljunkie, i do Plex Media Server Logs from yesterday which was downloaded shortly after one of the times it crashed if that would be helpful in any way?
i tested the original plex app on roku this morning and it played without crashing for a 20min episode but is still the same version which was crashing the night before so not sure why all the crashes and self fixed without a update
