Hey All,
Have a problem with Roku after updating to the most recent version on my TCL TV that is driving me crazy.
To level set, here is my setup:
- Nvidia Shield running PMS (updated Shield with hotfix to fix NAS access)
- PMS version at 1.24.5.5173
- Synology DS418 running 16TB storage in raid configuration
- Clients: 2 Android TVs, 2 Roku TVs, 1 Android mobile client, multiple web clients
- Usage is local network and local content only
I am attaching the logs from the Roku TV causing issues (captured right before a crash when trying to play a movie “Galaxy Quest”):
roku_galaxy_quest_log.txt (165.2 KB)
I recently updated both the Nvidia Shield and the Roku Client (on one TV).
Issues:
- After the update to the Roku client in question, I have had significant issues with time to load content, setting subtitles, etc. I routinely see a pattern where after playing a single item (regardless of file size or length) I will see the Roku get stuck at 13% and crash back to the home screen of the Roku TV. Upon relaunching I can usually play the same file (85% of the time maybe).
- Additionally, I routinely have a problem setting subtitles on a file playing - the first attempt will show an error and then a prompt after 30 seconds or so giving the option to “retry” and if I do it will always work correctly and apply subtitles to the file.
- General performance is pretty terrible from navigating menus, playing items, etc. I have optimized database and cleaned bundles.
- Plex client logging on Roku is fundamentally broken in that the log is inaccessible when the Plex client isn’t running and when the Plex client is started, the previous log is wiped. This means that you cant actually capture the crash event.
The described behavior is new to the Roku update. I have rolled the PMS version back to a pervious known good version as a mean to isolate the issue. None of the behavior described is present on the older Roku client, Android Client or web clients
