Roku Express, any time audio is transcoded, get zero sound

Server Version#:1.25.5.5492
Player Version#: 6.9.16.7509-b777726aa-Plex

I have one user’s client that is reporting this, all other Roku apps have sound. It seems that if it has to transcode anything beyond 2 channel sound, the content is completely silent. Must be a fairly recent issue.

AC3 3.0 to 2.0 is silent, AAC to AC3 is silent, etc. Should clarify the output has to be stereo, the user uses a sound bar with a subwoofer. All other apps for the Roku work flawlessly (Netflix, Hulu, etc.)

Direct play is completely fine. Also, never had an issue with any of this before.

Any ideas or things we can try? I have to relay any questions as this person lives over 3 hours away from me. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Had someone test the same items on a Roku TV and they are perfect, it’s just the Roku Express

Ok, I got them to test it again, this time I took a pic of what Tautulli is saying:

Container: Converting (MKV to MPEGTS)
Video: Direct Stream (H264 720p)
Audio: Transcode (AAC 3.0 to AC3 2.1)
Subtitle: Direct Play (SRT)

I tried moving the codec folder elsewhere and rebooting. No dice afterwards. :frowning:

make sure the audio output options of their roku are correctly set to make the capabilities of the device it is connect to. i.e., the roku settings outside of Plex. Highly unlikely any streaming app is going to try and output AC3 2.1

If I understand you correctly BobSnot, you think a Roku setting for the device outside of the Plex app is set to run AC3 2.1?

Completely gave up. The user’s daughters split the cost on a brand new Roku Ultra instead and now everything works.

…of course everything worked on the Roku Express until this incident as well.
