Roku features 6 months to a year behind

First, I love the product, great work.

I was just wondering why plex features under rokuRoku domites, the most popular viewer for cable cutters, is airways the last to get new feature sets?

I’m still waiting to be able to set live recordings, over a year later after purchasing a plex pass. Having the live guide would be a real plus.

I can’t search podcasts, or add them manually. I currently remote control into my plex server to do these age other tasks. I can’t let my family use this solution without my constant assistance.

Could you just help me understand why it takes so much longer to add features? Can I help alpha test or providing qc / qac?

Thanks

Roku is a player.
Some things will never get to the roku.

I don’t play with podcasts much but you add them to the server.

They could be implemented as a channel if nothing else… Something.

I spent a month reviewing players, posting questions on this site about features, usability etc before settling on the roku. I really wanted the shield so I had lossless audio with movies, but could not justify the additional cost at I’m disabled now and cutting the cord was a cost saving step.

Having the channel guide with the ability to set future recordings is the key feature of any DVR.

I purchased a lifetime plex pass with the promises made the new features would continue to be rolled out as stated. It was never stated storytelling features would never be available. My assumption was my family would use the roku for their dvr.

The whole point of my post is asking WHY some things will never get to the player the majority of your user base for Plex?

Purchasing ANYTHING based on what is to come in the future is a mistake. Making that mistake is NOT a fatal flaw in the purchase process but it does mean that the process was incomplete at best.

Roku is the best platform for me because of ease of use however it is not, never has been and never will be the must full featured Plex platform.

It is pretty easy to make a basic player on the Roku and even add a lot of bells and whistles BUT the development environment (Bright Script) is a more difficult environment to create in than the other players for Plex.

I understand that the new Roku environment allows more features and flexibility and the Roku app may be in the process of a rewrite to take full advantage of the new system.

But, again, depending on future features for current decisions is a mistake. You should only choose devices on what they currently do.

None on the players featured dvr at the time… It was under development…

I’m simply asking, will it be developed or not?

So besides being critical of my choices, can anyone talk about the development cycle of plex player?

Plex doesn’t discuss their roadmap or schedules.
