Roku Plex channel no longer retains settings

Server Version#: 1.19.5.3035
Player Version#: 6.6.4.66468-8be6f8f5b

I have about a half dozen Roku TVs running this Plex channel that no longer retain settings, this behavior started in June 2020. Each time I launch the channel on any TV I am forced to setup my home customization again. I choose a server, choose libraries to be pinned to the home screen, modify settings etc and then when I close and launch the channel again everything has reset.

I’ve tried removing the channel and adding it again (which is a pain since it removes it from every linked Roku) but the issue persists.

Help?

It sounds like the memory we are allowed to use on the Roku is full, and not able to save all of the settings. I have some ideas to better conserve memory. When I have that ready, would you be willing to install a private channel to see if it fixes the issue?

Yeah, I’m onboard. This is happening on all of my Roku TVs, they range from an old 43" up to series 6 units, I also have a streaming stick that is affected. If this were a memory issue I’d expect it to vary between models or at the very least be affecting the entire community but I’m willing to install the test-channel and more than happy to help, I do this sort of stuff all. day. long.

The memory we are able to preserve is very limited and the same for all models. The memory required will vary between users depending on how many shared servers you have, users you have added as friends, pinned sources, and more. I’m hoping to have something later today to test. I’ll DM you when it’s ready.

Understood, fire at will.

Already sent over a build through a DM a bit ago. :crossed_fingers:

Looks like that fixed it on the oldest Roku tv. Not sure if this explains why I’m having an issue when others aren’t but I do have the maximum number of friends, maybe that’s why I’m hitting the memory limit?

Thanks for your help!

When will this fix make it to an official release?

I completely missed your comments on what influences memory allocation.

Excellent! yeah, it looks like you have a lot of shared servers as well as friends, which definitely increases the memory requirements. Glad to hear it’s working though!

When will this fix make it to an official release?

This will have to be reviewed a bit more to make sure it’s generally safe, then we’ll release to the Preview channel for a little bit. The officially release will normally take a few weeks as it has to be reviewed by Roku. In the mean time, please use this version as it’s current.

Keep an eye on this thread Plex for Roku - #224 by ljunkie. We will always update it when we have a preview and official release to share.

When you have a chance, please force an update on the Roku. I’ve submitted a minor change to the channel and just want to make sure everything continues to work.

Updated the channel and everything seems fine.

Thanks for the update! If you don’t mind, please continue to only use that channel, just to make sure it continues to work. note: since you installed it on one device, it should show up on the other Roku’s automatically (if not, force an update on them too)

@innerspace we have released a Preview update that includes the memory fixes. I’d suggest to remove the beta version from your Roku, and install the Preview version.

Excellent update, Man.

Puts the Roku UNO app even farther out in front of everything else.

You, Sir - Rock.
