I sort my music library by Albums / Album Artist. When I log in to Plex on my Windows 10 desktop to manage my WD MyCloud NAS library, I have the alpha navigation bar on the right hand side of my desktop Plex screen. However, when I tell my Roku Ultra Plex app to sort that way, the alpha navigation bar is replaced with a plain bar. If I choose by Artist / Title, the alpha navigation bar is there, but obviously, no album covers. I like my album covers.
Before I got the NAS, I had a Roku Express (no ethernet port; just wifi) and a laptop as my media server and the Albums / Album Artist alpha navigation bar was there in the Roku app.
If eliminating the alpha navigation bar in Albums / Album Artist is not a Plex decision, then how do I get it back?
The alphabet bar is there for me, on a Roku 3, when showing Albums sorted by Album Artist. It’s even there in a library with only 5 albums, so it’s not hidden because of a small library, as it does in other apps.
I know of nothing that should cause the bar to not be there - there’s no setting. Have you tried rebooting the Roku? If that doesn’t change anything, uninstalling/reinstalling the Plex app might be the next step.
If you haven’t done so already, you might try creating another Music library (don’t delete the first), and see if the problem is the same in that one. Depending on how your files are arranged on disk, you can point to a sub-set, so you’re not creating a second full library, just to save time. If nothing else, it might give a clue to the cause of the problem.
After some drilling down, I believe the issue is with my Roku Plex app. Plex is installed on my MyCloud NAS and I manage my media on the NAS via the Plex web interface. After checking the NAS MyCloud Plex version, my web interface version, and my Roku version, it turns out all three are different versions and all are up to date. It’s only the Roku App that suddenly won’t display the alpha navigation bar when sorting my music by Album / Album Artist. It was there on my previous two Roku devices. It changed to the plain bar when I got my new Roku Ultra this Christmas.
If this wasn’t an intentional (unwelcome and unnecessary) change, then it seems like a bug to me so who does one report this to to fix it.
