Roku Premiere+ stopped playing xvid/avi

Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935
Player Version#:6.6.2.6457.57b807617-Plex

I used to be able to fix this by turning off “use new player”, however I have noticed either the option has been removed or moved.

I also can’t say exactly when this might have manifested… I don’t often watch a lot of AVI/XVID but it was nice to know I could…

Any workarounds / fixes? Or is this going to be a use Handbrake or similar to re-encode all your old existing media?

Roku doesn’t have any player variants. We did have a player rewrite 2+ years ago, but we didn’t have a toggle for it.

As for AVI/XVID, those will need to be transcoded to play properly on the Roku. Have you disable transcoding on your server?

Nope. No server changes… Transcode is on… hgh qual, max 3 streams, hw accel transcode and encoding enabled.

The only difference that I just thought about now is that I previously had a Denon AVR-S920W between the roku and my TV…, it blew up… Now I have a DENON AVR-S740H filling that role…

I Know its a longshot but might the audio decode differences between AVRs cause this sort of issue?

Not a long shot at all. Different devices will have different capabilities. What exactly is the issue you are seeing right now?

AVI/XVID encapsulated as MKV was my test set… Worked a little bit ago… Now Plex/Roku just gets to 33% then times out saying the media can’ be played…

Tested the files w/ K-lite codec / VLC and the content plays fine in Media Player and VLC. on my laptop. Media plays fine on roku after using handvrake to re-enc to MPEG-4 / AAC…

My goal was to re-enc to MP4/AAC for my older content anyways so as to reduce the potential for transcoding at all… This just sort of accelerates the agenda is all…
