When watching Roku locally and having the quality set to original with Allow MPEG2 and direct play Auto the Roku will play the live TV stream without transcoding perfectly (of course it always says 10 or 20 Gbps haha). But remotely the same exact device with remote set to original, Allow MPEG2, and direct play Auto it will transcode live TV. The only way around this is to set direct play from Auto to force. But then if I try to watch a movie that’s not compatible I have to change it:(. Just wondering if this is something that can be fixed? Thank you
Technical details
Internet connections
Locally 1 gig upload and download
Remote 1 gig upload and download
Wired or Wireless doesn’t make a difference
Tested on a TCL, element, and Roku Ultra 2020
With it set to force it runs perfectly fine for hours
One setting I can think to check is in Plex web, go to Settings → Remote Access, then make sure you have clicked on the “Show Advanced” button on the right side. After clicking “Show Advanced” some additional remote access settings should appear. For your setup I would think you would want the “Internet Upload Speed” set to “1000” Mbps, and “Limit Remote Stream Bitrate” set to “Original (No limit)”.
You could be on to something! Since the Roku reports the wrong data limit and I did have my data upload speed set to 800 Mbps that could be the cause! I will try removing the amount and also try it with a huge amount say 22000 Mbps to see if it makes a difference. Will test when I go to my 2nd home tonight! Thank you!
@hokierulz Your Amazing. I have had that problem for over a year lol!!! Thank you! Took one of my Rokus, hooked it up to my hotspot with the data upload speed removed on the server and BAM IT WORKS!!! This is because Roku reports the wrong speed to the server but now it does not matter! Thank you again!
