Rolling back to early earlier versions

I have not upgraded my Plex Server for a long time, mainly because every time I do I find I lose something, either features or performance or both.

I have exactly the same hardware and 90% exactly the same content and yet performance has problems sometimes despite it working before.

What I really need to do is to install a super light version of Linux that can handle Virtual Operating systems and then testing

Current Plex Server under Windows 10/11
Legacy Plex Server under Windows 7/10
Plex Server under Linux
Jellyfin

Obviously I expect the latter to offer less but maybe it will do what I need.

It is a headless PC, nothing special, it just works or worked.

I wonder if legacy setup files are available for Plex, I really want a version that does not need to have internet connected, does not phone home and does not share my data.

I really hate all this comparing social use and regular requirement to OPT OUT when I have already said I do NOT want my data shared. I am never going to change my mind on sharing my data.

Has anyone here done this kind of roll back?

Be aware that the things you mentioned (social use and opt-out functionality) are functions of your account and the clients, not necessarily Plex Media Server.

Having said that, this GitHub page has archived links to some fairly old server versions (going back to 1.15.x.x). Find your operating system and architecture and Bob’s your uncle.

And having said that, be aware that, depending on what version you’re currently on, downgrading to very old releases could possibly bork your database. So do yourself a favor and backup your entire Plex server data directory before performing your tests.

My personal suggestion would be to just move to the current public release and track it going forward. Report any issues you have as you have them. You can turn off the social features for your account and they will remain disabled irrespective of your server version.
