Rpi3 Overheating

Hello.

I have the latest Rasplex installed on my Rpi3, I recently moved from PMP. Generally things are fine. Playback is smooth and I’m very happy with the execution this project brings.

I am finding that I get the overheating ‘yellow’ square appear in the top right of my display when I am on the library views however.
Thinking that this might just be the nature of the Rpi, I installed some heatsinks on the two chips. Even with these heatsinks I still get that little square appear when on the library views. It’s fine in playback, just when I have all my albums/film posters up on the screen.

I’ve changed theme, but that doesn’t fix it. I didn’t get this on PMP, so just wondering if it’s a software glitch on this build or might I have a defective Pi?

Thanks for any input.

I’m using an Rpi2 with Rasplex 1.6.2 on it, without any overclocking settings, and I’m not seeing anything regarding overheating. Do you have a casing around the RPi?

I do have a case. I’ll try taking it off but had assumed this was fairly typical use case for a pi, even with a case.

I bought a Raspberry Pi 3 recently that would idle at 70.C (It had a case). I then found out that the USB ports weren’t working at all. I got a replacement Pi and this new one now idles around 53.C and the USB ports work.

There is an issue with cpu spikes as soon as you select a library item which require label scrolling (e.g. title is too long), even if you select another (non) scrolling item the cpu will still stay at almost 100%.

A fix for this issue and some other cpu/rendering optimizations will be in v1.7
