Sample rate matching

I have flac music from my server to plexamp. I use and iphone 12 via usb with carplay. I am trying to get the best quality with no loss in bitrate. I came across sample rate matching with a menu stating “disabled” or “smart”. There is some confusion to what these setting do and how they impact the sound. Can you clarify or point to an article? Thank you

I don’t actually use Plex amp since i don’t really listen to much music and don’t know the answer to that. I don’t think there is any article on it at the moment. I’m going to move this to our Labs forum and I’m sure @elan or someone will answer when they are on.

I’m not sure what limitations exist on the USB interface with CarPlay with respect to audio.

In smart mode, whenever playback is starting (or has been idle for a while), the app will attempt to reconfigure the audio output to match the source (e.g. for a 96kHz FLAC it will try to open the audio interface at 96kHz).

Standard disclaimer: resampling algorithms are quite high quality, and our ears don’t hear above 20kHz so I doubt you’ll be able to hear any difference…
