Samsung 49KS7000 transcodes AC3/DTS

Server Version#: 1.16.6.1592

Samsung TV tizen app transcodes AC3 and DTS. Using subtitles is not possible if I don’t want to transcode the video too.
Server Dashboard shows direct play but after a while it switch to transcode.

After starting playing the movie:

During playback server CPU usage is unusual high for direct play.

After a while it shows the transcode.

You never specified what Sammy TV, but note that 2018+ versions of Sammy doesn’t support DST, and as such, have to transcode!

It’s a 49KS7000 as in the title.
It is a 2016 TV. It has DTS hw decoder. The problem also exists with AC3.

Ups

Sadly doesn’t have such device, but please do the following:

Hi
Thanks for the reply. The server log I’ve already uploaded in the first post. Debug logging without verbose was turned on and server log on Tizen TV was also turned on.

Not sure if this is odd. Still looking

Your film is full of SRTs, but it appears to have chosen ASS subs, and those always get transcoded.

There’s a lot of articles and forum guides on subtitles and Smart TVs.

How is it possible?
There are only srt subtitles in the mkv file. (just checked the media info XML)

I know right. It’s why I held my little head in my hands for a bit.
There’s so much about subs. Edit you original post and add the subtitles
tag. Hopefully we can get another pair of eyes on this. Try to read those
articles and forum pins about subs.

Please upload a zip with the logs, right after reproducing, as I asked for, instead of posting a snip with 6 lines!

Apologies if I got in the way and buried his response to you…

3220 line in the server log uploaded in the first post. Is it not visible? I can see it.

Visible, but next time, please don’t edit your posts with stuff like that…

When in a thread, people like me don’t wanna check every single post to check if they where altered!

You didn’t and do keep on top of this…

The more people that looks into this, the better a chance we have of a success here…

After all, this is Community at it’s best

Are you sure, that the selected sub is in UTF-8?

Yes.

Try and extract it, since it might still be a bad sub

I’ve tried to play the file today and now it direct plays with subtitles.

Very strange.
Subtitles were extracted and zipped in my previous post.

Indeed, and sadly no idea why the ass was selected, since your subs are valid.

When said, this might be caused by:

But unsure here, and even more strange, that it works now, if nothing has changed?

If it happens again, we’ll need a small sample of the media:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201035968-generating-sample-files-from-media/

I have a similar issue on my 49KS8000 however in my case the following happens always in sequence but not always at the same moment (even when replaying the same video it sometimes start after a few minutes and sometimes it is 15 minutes but always the same sequence of issues):

  1. Subtitle not showing or dropping out for some sentences.
  2. Freezing of picture and audio (complete freeze)
  3. Hard exit required from App and restart required before being able to navigate again

This issue has not been there when I bought the TV and installed plex at the time. I am not sure when it began but seemingly this year. I checked already that indeed it is was always UTF8 srt and I only have MKV and mp4 files generating this issue. Up to now it seems limited to HD (720p and 1080p).

Not able to try the build of the post that would hold the fix because it says it is not compatible with my NAS (Synology DS218+).

Honestly I loved the convenience of Plex on my Smart TV and threw out my mediaplayer to limit the number of devices. Now that it is not working anymore I am not able to use it anymore. Please indeed look for a fix. I will try to simulate the problem again with a log file and upload it.
