Server Version#: 4.12.3 on linux 18.04
Player Version#: I don’t know. How do I find that out?
I’m absolutely not technical when it comes to Plex. All I know is I found it in the Ubuntu software store and installed it and did some configurations. I went to my Samsung Smart TV and saw it was an input source and it found my server on my PC and connected and I navigated to my library. It shows folders and I navigated to my “movies” folder and navigated down to some of the folders that match those on my PC. But whereas the files on my PC are MP4, and the player on the PC can play them, when I look at them on my TV they are listed as MPG and can not play. What is going on here? I saw reference to a Samsung Plex app in other posts, but I did not install any Plex app on my TV.
It means you are using the generic DLNA-compatible player software which comes by default with your TV. Lots of things won’t work that way.
Install the Plex app from the Samsung app store, then try again.
I will try that and post reply. While I’ve got your attention, what about my LG tv? It is a smart TV but maybe 5 years old. It can connect to my server but all I get is a message that says “no file”.
Sorry, no idea about LG’s. Your model might not be supported anymore.
Things you can try with older (and inofficial) clients:
- remove the PIN on your account (if you have set one)
- make the IP address of the TV static, then put it into
Settings - Server - Network - ‘Show Advanced’ - “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”
This has only a chance of working if server and TV are in the same local network. - set ‘Secure Connections’ under
Settings - Server - Network
not to ‘Required’
Thank you. The Samsung Plex app works and all movies play, except I don’t know how to have my library displayed by folder the way the generic app does.
Thank you. I made the IP of the LG tv static and added it to the list of IP addresses as you said to do. Works now.
Plex doesn’t do ‘by folder’ (very well).
But go and see Missing browse by folder on LG TV
