I am having the same issue, Everything played on my nu8000 is being transcoded. Currently played a 264 with ac3 audio and no subs. Which it transcoded, obviously only changing the audio to aac. Plex Media Server.1.log (10.1 MB) Plex Transcoder Statistics.log (527.8 KB)
Everything on my samsung is the same as the above post but I had turned off the direct stream option, because of past audio sync issues. I do have the HW encoding enabled, and not sure if there are issues with using AMD chips?
local, so not the same issue, related? You mentioned before trying to figure out if it’s a client or server issue. If the server is having a problem distinguishing between whether it can/needs to transcode, stream or play? as it relates to a particular client? Would it not be the same regardless of it being local or remote?
my issue and how it may relate, I play a file it transcodes due to the client not excepting Streams. When I allowed the client to accept streams, the server started to direct stream. (forgive me if I’m wrong). In theory it is only direct streaming when the audio is incomparable with the client? For if it’s video then it transcodes, yes/no? AC3 audio is compatible with my nu800 (and probably all Samsungs) but it still wants to convert audio. So is the server suppose to act differently when there is a audio comparability issue with client between local and remote?
If playback is local, then there’s no point in discussing anything about remote playback
Not necessarily. It can also direct stream video; direct stream implies remuxing the container to a compatible version for the target device because the codec of the video (or audio) is compatible but the container is not.
Can you please start playback on a video with the issue you’re having and during playback, go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop in your web browser, then Settings / Server / Dashboard and post a screenshot fo the Now Playing section (near the top of the page, above the graphs).
