I cannot change the audio track without it being transcoded, it only allows playing without transcoding the first track, whether or not it is selected as default and being compatible with the sound codec, for example, AC3.
I have tried to recode the file by changing the order of the tracks and it plays without transodifying the first one that previously did not allow it to be done.
This happens to me on a Samsung S95BA and on a Q60A. I have tried on a Google Chromecast with TV and it doesn’t happen, you can change the audio track and it doesn’t transcode it.
Some more information, I just installed the old 3.70.0 beta version of the app and I have verified (with the Samsung S95BA TV) that it does not happen, I can change the language track and it plays it without transcoding.
Are any of those 2021 Tizen? If so they all have a bug that Plex has to work around, something to do with selecting an audio track when there’s more than one. There will be good explanations buried in the forums here, but not in any obvious spot.
That’s right, that’s what happens, any audio track other than the first is transcoded. It only happens with the Plex app for Tizen and it happens on a 2021 TV and a 2022 TV.
App Version : 5.57.2, result:
“Cannot direct play with protocol: http, codec ac3. Reason: Player does not support selecting alternative audio stream.”
It’s a bug in the Samsung video player. They’re the ones that need to fix it. I already messaged them about it, but the only way to work around the issue is to remux to select the correct audio track. If it’s transcoding, then something else is causing the transcode since it just needs to direct stream the audio. Likely causes are subtitles, since we’d need to transcode to make sure things stay in sync
I just remuxed mkv by deleting subtitles and swapping tracks and only first audio track can be played without transcoding… Someone said that samsung fixed it in update (2 months ago?) because he played a movie from a usb drive.
Hello, thanks for the reply.
I’ve tried with a 4K movie, using a USB and the TV player I’ve been able to change both audio and subtitles without problem (showing dolby atmos on the sound bar). Later I did the same from plex and did transcode, losing the Atmos. Which makes me assume that the problem with the Samsung player is already corrected.
