I’ve always used Roku plex app but it’s been giving me issues recently not Plex issue but a Roku issue of some HVEC videos with Red tint !! So i’ve switched to the Plex Samsung app from my tv instead but i’m disappointed because I’m seeing a mix-match of videos that I have both 1080p files and 4K files for that don’t show up as 4K being the default play method, i’m very confused here, this never happened on the Roku Plex app..
for example see my screenshots attached, in both instances I have 2 files in the same folder for each move one file is 1080p the other is 4K. YET, The Infinity War shows default of 1080p so when i play it , it plays in 1080p so if i want 4k i HAVE to click more and chose version 4K which sucks!!!, then turn over and try to play EndGame and guess what it shows up as default 4K so when i play it it plays in 4K by default, what gives here ? like i stated this never happened in the Roku app, but for obvious reasons i’m feed up with Roku and switching to Samsung but NOW i have an issue on the samsung app driving me nuts does anyone any idea why this is happening to me ? any suggestions ? thanks
That is how much bandwidth is required to the play the video for our various clients without buffering. Samsung TV’s have an 80 Mbps limit so if the number that applies to your TV is greater, it will not choose to play that version. With the file being at 50.2 Mbps, my guess is that the value is > 80 Mbps.
So first my entire house is Gig ether wired, no wifi involved here at all… so speed should not be an issue… here is the settings from BOTH the files/videos, in plex xml… to me both are less than 80 , i assume the first 2 numbers are taken into consideration
End Game
requiredBandwidths=“29362,27329,26180,25479,25409,25364,25317,25317”
Infinity War
requiredBandwidths=“46829,42961,31409,25478,23906,22449,20811,19372”
so i guess that is why, but again it begs the question , why can’t this be changed somehow someway ? because i’m on gig ethernet in my house so there is no question the file plays fine WHY would it not show 4K first ? you see my point :)… maybe put an option in settings to ignore this feature so that people can always have their 4K videos be default played version ? does that make sense ?
It’s a limitation of the TV, not your network or internet speeds. Because of this, Plex will not automatically choose any file > 80Mbps. You can force it by choosing the version you want, but the automatic selection routine will not pick it.
