I don’t really recall how long this has been going on for, but on my 2 UN65NU8000 smart tvs with the plex app installed and connected to my PMS, when watching TV shows that are in a series and one episode finishes and then you get the 10 second countdown to the next show on the Just Played / Up Next screen, there is all kinds of missing data like show info and picture of the episode up next. This only seems to happen on my Samsung TVs. On my roku based TVs in other rooms I have no issues. On my cell phones and tablets the autoplay functionality for Just Played / Up Next all seems to work fine in that I see the picture of the next episode and a brief description of it and I see the countdown timer. I was hoping somebody could help me figure out what is causing this and can direct me towards a fix.
To go through what I’ve done to troubleshoot so far:
Refresh Metadata for all libraries - SAME ISSUE AFTERWARDS
Removed all libraries and pointed them to empty directories and then reconnected libraries and Plex downloaded all the metadata from scratch - - SAME ISSUE AFTERWARDS
Ended all PMS processess running on my PMS and then deleted all the data inside of %appdata%\local\Plex Media Server\ directory and then went through the whole setup of Plex Media Server again on my machine readding libraries and letting it download all metadata for all my shows - SAME ISSUE AFTERWARDS
As last ditch effort because I’m a Plex Pass lifetime user, I enabled the beta download functionality and then did a manual check for updates and it installed what I’m assuming is the latest plex beta release. Whatever it installed at this point is what I gave as the current installed version above in the post. - SAME ISSUE AFTERWARDS
Multiple tries again of refreshing metadata - SAME ISSUE AFTERWARDS
Played with settings in Samsung TV plex app and I just can’t get the Just Played / Up Next screen to work properly on my Samsung TVs now.
Honestly, if I had to guess, this stopped working around the time that the update to PMS came out that added the Discovery feature to the Plex experience. Whether it’s the PMS software itself or the plex for Samsung app that is installed on my TV … I don’t know if it’s one or the other or some combination of both being the problem … or something else entirely. I’m just hoping somebody can possibly help.
The screen does jump to the next episodes … I just can’t see it on the screen what is next or the countdown timer as you can see in the attached picture. I hope this was the right forum to post this into. If not, please let me know and I’ll kindly move it to whichever forum somebody tells me is the correct forum subcategory to post it into. Thanks in advance for any help anybody can provide with this.
Thanks @cadtek91 for replying that you have the same issue on the same kind of TV. When do you think the issue started happening for you on your Samsung TV? Did it happen when Plex released the update that had the Discovery feature with it or was it prior to that? I honestly don’t know when it last worked properly and when it stopped working on my Samsung TV. I just remember noticing it one day and was like “that’s odd” … and then tried to remember when it last worked properly but I really can’t pinpoint a time I know for sure it worked normally on my TV. Hoping somebody from Plex development sees this and can address the cause of it and hopefully get a fix out there for it. I just saw my Samsung TV app has the new logo on it when opening the app but the logo on the Samsung SmartHub is still the old logo. Was really hoping when they updated the Samsung Plex app with updated logo that they’d fix this issue, but that was wishful thinking. Maybe whatever the next version release they do for Plex on Samsung will fix it.
Same issue here for quite a while on my NU8000. No timer nor details/description about the next episode but the next episode will still play automatically after 10secs. I hope it will be fixed
I have this same issue as well. I thought it was just my TV as well until I stumbled upon this thread. Tried factory resetting the tv as well, just appears to be an issue with the actual app version it seems. It works just fine on every other device, so it just appears to be an issue with these Samsung TVs? Hoping they have a fix coming soon!
Just wanted to report back that this appears to be fixed as of Friday 7/29/22 when I was watching some series tv shows and all of a sudden I saw the image in the place holder and the countdown showing instead of the blank box I reported it as.
I specifically remember it was still an issue of a blank box on Thursday night 7/28/22. What’s odd is I thought it correlated directly to the last Samsung TV app version of Plex, but I checked the Samsung Apps menu on the Plex app and it still shows version 5.32.1 that was last installed / last updated on 4/7/22. So I’m guessing this was a fox on the Plex Media Server side possibly. Hoping a dev will see my reply and perhaps chime in what was fixed.
I’m just happy it’s working again since this was happening on my living room TV where I watch moat of my shows on Plex and was experiencing this issue at. I hope it’s resolved for those of you other users here who replied on this thread as well.
