I recently updated and now Plex is not loading on my Samsung TV

I recently updated to Version 4.74.1 on the Plex Web App (Windows 10) and when I go to Plex on my Samsung TV App it no longer loads. All I get is a black screen.

Any help would be appreciated, it seems there are a few problems with people after updates.

Might of been an infra issue, not the plex media server/player. There was a recent outage shown here:

I’ve had the same problem. I updated my synology Plex server to 1.25.5.5492-6000 this morning. Ever since I get the black screen on my Samsung app (every other platform loads properly), in addition to other problems with library scans all hanging. This update has been a disaster.

I have 6 Samsung TVs in the house, the only one still working is a newer one that we bought this year. All of the Samsung Tizen TVs all show a blank screen. laptops, samsung phones, tablets and new samsung TVs are working fine. This used to work flawlessly until today.

My Plex Media Server is running on Ubuntu and updated automatically to 1.25.5.5492. It seems that the older Samsung TVs stopped working after the update. Since this server is on a virtual machine, it’s easy for me to restore the backups from January 31st (the last day before the update). I will report back once the restore is done.

I’m also getting a black screen while trying to load Plex on my Smart TV. No error messages. But I did not update my server. I’m still on 1.25.4.5487 for Windows. Everything was working fine just a few hours ago. Now I’m getting the black screen on both of my Tizens. I didn’t update or change anything.

OK, I restored from backups to version 1.25.3.5409 (January 31st 2022). Same thing, still a blank screen on the older Tizen TVs. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Yep black screen of death similar to last update in November

Can cast to chrome from iPhone onto the tv so it’s definitely a Samsung app issue

I also have same issue , Samsung UA55K6000 TV , sounds like Plex has issues currently?

Same issue here with a 2016 Samsung TV. Was working normally last night.

Working normally accessing via PS4, so definitely a client issue, not server

That’s not strictly true, the servers store config. and playback profiles so changes in server build could (and have in the past) impacted sone clients and not others. In this case it does seem related to client side changes.

I’m having the same issue since earlier today with a UA55KS8000 using docker official image for server.

Its always a black screen after start app on TV, ever the media server is down. Yesterday all works just fine.

You are not alone … and Plex has no ticket system or way of communicating with them , except this forum … Do they know this is affecting a lot of people ?

Where are the communications ?.. Status page is a joke and not correct…

Suspect its this update Version : 5.31.1 that has broken a lot of Samsung TV’s//

Also have the issue - plex starts loading on my ‘smart’ TV, then almost immediately black screen.

Plex is owned by microsoft, so there’ll be no real support - I wish there was an alternative I could switch to
