Samsung App not displaying new episodes

Server Version#: 1.23.4.4805
Player Version#: 5.20.1

For at least a year every now and then the Plex App on my Samsung TV will not update the episode list and show newer episodes that have been recently added to the server. It will show that there is a new episode with the correct episode number in the On Deck. But when you select it, instead of showing you that episode it either defaults back to Episode 1 or it shows the last episode the player did see, but it does not show a newer episode. But if we load the same episode on the web player or in the Android client, everything is displayed correctly.

In the past I think I’ve been able to fix this by resetting my Home Customization and that forced it to download all the data again. It was either that or uninstalling and reinstalling the app. I don’t remember exactly which. Currently, not even resetting the Home Customization is working, meaning that only uninstalling and reinstalling the app and having to relink it to my account is the solution. But given how this is happening more frequently as of the past couple of months, that’s becoming less acceptable as a solution.

To be clear, this mostly happened with just one Anime series for the past year plus, but as of late, it has started happening to multiple different series.

If there is anything that I can do on my end short of uninstalling and reinstalling the app I’d appreciate knowing.

Bueller?

What is the platform version for your Samsung TV? Also, can you provide the logs after you select that new episode? You can enable logging on the Samsung app by going into settings > advanced > log to media server (keep logging level on debug). From there you can grab the PMS Logs.

I have this exact same issue on my Samsung tv. Sometimes closing the app or shutting the tv off for a few mins fixed it, but it isn’t working right now. It’s been happening for months.

Platform Version 4
Client Version 5.21.1

After waiting like 5-10 mins it just magically appeared. But it should not take that long to show the episodes. When you select the show for Continue Watching it had episode 1 selected but the write-up was for episode 4 which was the new one I wanted to watch but it wasn’t in the visible list to select.

Logging to the server is enabled. I’ve been waiting for it to happen again, but it hasn’t since the last time that spurred me into creating this post. As soon as it does, I will add the logs to this post and update the client version if needed.

This seems to be the same bug as already reported in these threads:

Here is a workaround: LG WebOS issues. Episodes not appearing yet they are fine on the Desktop App - #12 by cremor

Yes, that does work. Thank you. It’s a pain in the ass, but it does work.

Has there been any progress on this bug?

I get it on my Samsung TV too I am running version 5.21.1

I still experience it and am just told to work around it, as evidenced by the above suggestion.

Have you checked to see if your TV needs an update to the firmware itself? Might not be getting a newer version if its dependent on the latest Tizen firmware from Samsung.

I am sure 5.21.1 is the latest version is it not?

it is also worth nothing that for me this is an intermittent issue - I have resolved it every time by restarting the TV (hold down the remote button for 10s). So it points to some sort of caching issue in my mind.
Exiting the application (pressing back till the screen that asks if you want to exit plex) and re-entering it does not seem to resolve it, but I am not sure if this really terminates the application or not.

Well you are not alone. My 2019 8000 series Samsung (all other devices are fine) do the same thing for well over a year. It is the Samsung app. Previous posts just died. I supplied logs and video from iPhone of what happens.

I have the wrong file being played any time I try and watch a new DRV recording. I have narrowed it, for me, to when the overall show already exists in a separate library/folder (in my case called TV Shows).

Also recently added episodes do not show properly to be played. A work around for this is to sort by ā€˜season’ instead of show.

Any help ideas from anyone?

Same issues here. Samsung Plex app skips new files, refuses to sync changes, altogether sucks. As this is the only device I use Plex on these days, I’m seriously tempted to cancel my Plex Pass and find another platform that does work. I have stripped the entirety of the Plex app from my TV, factory reset my TV, and then started from scratch to see if there was a caching issue. This gave me a couple of weeks without an issue but then it came back and it annoys me to no end.

I’ve been looking at this issue lately, and while I still haven’t been able to reproduce it myself, I think I at least have probably found the basic cause. I have a fix pending that I hope to get into the release after our next release. I’ll report back when that’s in and hopefully we can verify it fixes the issue.

For those who are interested, a more detailed description of the issue and fix follows :slightly_smiling_face::

Over a year ago we started using a new parameter for this client app when getting the list of episodes that allows us to fetch the selected episode and the episodes around it. Previously, we could only select episodes by index and page size, so for really large seasons, the selected episode would not be included, and therefore not initially focused. I’m still looking into it, but I believe there is likely some server bug that causes this issue when we use this parameter.

I was guessing that the parameter was the cause because the client app that Samsung uses was the only one that had been using it. What made me more sure was that we more recently started using this parameter on Roku, and soon after we got reports of the same issue there and that narrowed it down to the parameter being the likely culprit.

The fix reverts to our previous behavior while we investigate the issues with the parameter.

Fix is merged, so will be in the next release in a couple of weeks.

Fix should be available now in 5.36.1. Let me know if you’re still seeing the issue.
