I think the scan-function works very well so far but what we really need is more customizable scan-routines (at the moment you can only set 1 scan-time for all categories at once).
If you have a very big collection of content in one category it takes a lot of time and cpu to scan, so you can set a time during the night or once a week if the content doesn’t change that much.
If you have another category with less content but which often changes you can set a routine like scan every 30 minutes.
There is an API for scanning if you are interested in making a simple scheduled script.
