Scanner crashing

Server Version#: 1.23.3.4706

I keep having issues with the scanner crashing atleast once a day requiring a reboot for new items to be found. I am unsure what would be causing this or is there is a fix. When I look for the crash report nothing is there.

Here is the actual error: I have verified that this column in the database table

Attaching media scanner logs. This crash seems to have happened shortly after a restart of the server

Plex Media Scanner.log (918 Bytes)

Hate to request this but:

Could you do that one more time and include the full logs ZIP please which you download after restarting?

I will write it up and submit to Engineering. That looks like a database migration error.

I just left for work. I can restart and provide logs once I get home. Thank you

@ChuckPa I have stopped the server. Cleared out all logs so that these are all new. Started the server. The moment I ran a scan i began seeing crashed messages. Attached are all the logs that were created on startup of scan

So just an update. I seem to have found that if I restart the server and run a full scan I get the error. If I start the server and then run a scan on each library manually I have no issue.

Issue still occurring. I thought maybe I could scan the database for errors following: Repair a Corrupted Database | Plex Support

But it does not seem to work. When I run the command: sqlite3 com.plexapp.plugins.library.db “PRAGMA integrity_check”

I get the following error: Error: no such collation sequence: icu_root

Not really sure what that means. Might be unrelated.

I went back to public and the scanner crashes seem to have stopped. Haven’t had to restart for several days now. Gonna keep an eye on it.

What version number has been working for you? I was able to stop my crashes with version 1.22.3.4392.

I was on 1.23.3.4706 when I first started to track an issue with scanner crashing.

I attempted to update to the latest beta of 1.23.3.4712 but I also get the scanner error when a full scan happens. As of now I am on 1.23.3.4707 showing as the latest public build and I have had no issues for this entire day. I have restarted several times to see if I could get it to happen again so far nothing.
The moment I upgrade back to the latest beta 1.23.3.4712 it occurs again. So I am gonna just stay on this build for awhile I guess.

Hello, i have the same problem.
I copied the whole Plex folder (it’s a docker container) with the same rights but still I can’t scan anything I have exactly the same error, even with an older Plex version.

So just came to a conclusion. It is not that I went back to the public version that has stopped my error. It is that I have turned off the automatic library scans and manually scanning once a day. So far no error. The moment I turn on automatic scans again and then restarted crash appears in logs again.

@soultaco83

I’m sorry I’ve been away from this thread.
I’ve been insanely busy with Synology DSM 7 launch.

If we can find out / track how far it goes before it crashes (maybe in the logs)
then grab the naming / structure ,
and embedded metadata if MP4 / AVI,

I can take that to Engineering and ask for their input.

No worries there. With some testing today I have made a new server with the latest beta and fresh databases so I am running both side by side. One on the 1.23.3.4707 public version and now the test server on 1.23.4.4775. I am going to test it abit more and see if I can can get both to crash again under the same situation. Previously when I was updating I updated to 1.23.3.4712.

Update so far. The test server is not having any issues with crashing on the 1.23.4.4775. I updated my primary server to 1.23.4.4775 as well. Scanner crash as of now seem to have stopped. I can not reproduce. I have reenabled automatic scans on the server. Ran full manual scans and library scans separately. Nothing seems to have just stopped. Gonna keep watching to see if there are any crashes.

For my part it is impossible to scan after a migration from one server to another.
To specify that it is well on the same versions, all the Plex folder is identical to my new server I can launch a video except that I cannot scan any more.
If I turn off my new server and turn on the old one the scan still works.

I can provide complete logs but only in private.

Great news but also bad. Scanner crashed again but this time on both the test server and the main server without me making any changes or doing anything. An automatic scan triggered then noticed new items were not getting added. My logs are full of crashes. Later tonight when I get off of work I will stop the server. Clear logs. Restart and see if I can reproduce again.

@ChuckPa I have the lastest logs from server version: 1.23.4.4775
I stopped the server. Cleared out all logs. Started server and then ran a full scan. I am not sure if I can find out the info you requested as I do not see a consistent reason in the logs.
The moment I press scan I get the scanner crash messages. It doesn’t always crash, it took about 5 reboots but I was able to successfully run a full scan without a crash and it added new media to the server.

I think I’m having a similar issue. I have attached logs, although I did not stop/clear/restart server.

OS: CentOS 8
Plex Version 1.24.1.4931

Plex_Scanner_Crash.txt (229.6 KB)
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-09-03_12-30-59.zip (5.3 MB)

I have started to have this happen again. It will be fine for awhile then just almost daily the scanner will crash causing items to not be added to the libraries. A few restarts and it is ok again for a bit.
