Library updater does not manually update library media

Server Version#: 1.25.4.5426
Player Version#: n/a

Since a couple of days, I have problems wth updating libraries. After a fresh server restart, automatic library updating (scanning for new or deleted media in my libraries) works. But rather sooner than later, that behaviour stops and it seems that the library scan HANGS… I cannot scan for new media any longer.

The console output when trying to manually scan the same library is:

Jan 24, 2022 18:15:06.309 [0x7fcd95c2ab38] Fehlersuche — Library Updater: Requested that section 4 be updated, force=0, deep=0, subdir= iTunes=0
Jan 24, 2022 18:15:06.309 [0x7fcd95c2ab38] Fehlersuche — Library Updater: Section 4 is already being updated.

Initiating a manual scan of other libraries shows:

Jan 24, 2022 18:16:47.886 [0x7fcd95bc9b38] Fehlersuche — Library Updater: Requested that section 30 be updated, force=0, deep=0, subdir= iTunes=0
Jan 24, 2022 18:16:47.886 [0x7fcd95bc9b38] Fehlersuche — Library Updater: Queueing section 30

… but scan never completes.

Going to QTS, stopping PMS (not via SSH but via UI) and starting the server once again, then manually initiating a library update then works… but it’s only a matter of time until it hangs again. Therefore, I need to restart my server on a daily basis, sometimes more often than this.

Can you please help me? Do I have a DB problem or is this a scanner problem? I am willing to PM logs.

Does anybody from Plex have the wish to help me see through this and maybe fix this?
I would love to assist @ChuckPa , @dane22 or other of you helpful souls who were able to help on other occasions.

Thank you in advance.

Please don’t ping after such a short time.
Do recall we are spread all over the globe, and in different time zones

When said, reproduce, and DM me the logs

Thank you for your reply. When Last time I created a new thread with smart collections with unchangable meta-data, nobody replied at all, so I thought, this time I might make more clear than before, that I am not just reporting back.

I’ll be travelling in a few hours from now (for the whole day). When I get back home, I check and DM you the logs, then.

Hi, back to business… just added a couple of new files to different libraries and the library updater is “hanging” again.

The status in the menu here is not updating any longer…

I can stop the library updating here in that menu:

The updating process seems to hang…
I DM the logs to you in a minute. @dane22

Sadly nothing in the logs indicates it’s hanging :frowning:

I do see a few exceptions, but PMS continues

Like:

ERROR - Exception analyzing media file 'Z:\series\Breaking Bad (2008) {tmdb-1396}\Season 03\Breaking.Bad.S03E01.No Mas.avi' (Could not parse Z:\series\Breaking Bad (2008) {tmdb-1396}\Season 03\Breaking.Bad.S03E01.No Mas.avi (error=-2): No such file or directory)

Permission error?

and seen on both Season 02 and Season 03

Also note that you MUST use English naming for the season folders, and not German

Erm… what is Z:\series.… ?
Are you sure that you analyzed the correct logs? There’s nothing like Z:.… my PMS is on QNAP.

Plus, my Breaking Bad version is MKV not AVI…
Plus, I am not using the new Agent and therefore do not use anything like

Oh, with legacy agents, “Staffel 02” or “Staffel 03” are no problem at all…

By the way… 15 hours ago, a bug fix for the most actual BETA PMS has gone online:

This one has the following fix:

  • (Scanner) Some file paths were causing errors when scanning movie libraries (#13323)

I just installed that version. Will check if bug still appears.

Darn, and you are so right here…

Had so many PMS zips, named almost identical…Sorry

On it again

Edit: Await your feedback on the new version

Still a problem. I have to search for the library in which media search is “hanging”, then abort that library’s media file search… then the next few queued library searches go well, then another “hangs”.

Edit: I do not want to be a pain in the … just adding an @dane22 reference for notification purposes. Sorry.

Could I get a fresh set of logs please, right after reproducing?

Sure… this time, the process is still “hanging”, I did not interrupt it. PM with log go out to you directly.

Wanted to chime in on this. I just updated to the latest version, and this is still happening. I’m in the process of renaming all of my files to 100% match the (apparently now rigid) “recommended” file naming schema, which involves doing a Plex dance for the content. I have a significant library, so this is taking me over a week to complete. And the scanner hanging on the last item of the scan every time is really causing massive headaches. It will even cause the server itself to hang and become unresponsive, requiring a full system reboot.

@rossinior

I’m sadly not bright enough to spot any errors in the log :frowning:

When said, we have one other thread running with the same issue

I’ve added your logs to an internal issue for the devs to look at

Thank you, @dane22
It’s not only about movies, but can happen in ANY library. - probably some special character issue in paths or file names… or a wrong index.

I stay open for debugging…

Same issue here

Also on 1.25.4.5468 on QNAP system

99% of my content is English but some German moves sprinkled in.

Started two Plexpass versions ago (last week?)

I can confirm the files it gets hung up on in both of my libraries are perfectly named (I know this because I’ve been going through my entire library with Filebot, one drive at a time, and this happens at the end of every scan. Everything is named as follows:

Movies:
Movies/Movie Name (Year) {tmdb-TMDBID}/Movie Name (Year) {tmdb-TMDBID} [codec and source info].mkv

Shows:
TV Shows/Show Title {tvdb-TVDBID}/Season XX/Show Title - SXXEXX - Episode Name [codec and source info].mkv

So the trigger is definitely not due to any issues related to file or folder naming. For me, at least, it seems to be the very last item in any scan. As if it can’t move on to whatever the “completing the scan” steps are.

Hey, can y’all please confirm which agent(s) you are using for the libraries with issues.

Generally looks like the database is getting locked but not sure why yet.

I had the same issue with Movies and TV Shows

Agents:
Movies (Plex Movie)
TV-Shows (Plex TV Series)

Mod: Consolidating info: Also on 1.25.4.5468 on QNAP system

I’m using the new Plex agent for both libraries. Did the full refresh metadata/etc. after upgrading.
