I have a few suggestions for features that would helps managing large libraries. Specially for those systems that do not get the file system notification of changes like SMB, NFS etc.
- Being able to mark a folder in the edit folder feature of a library as stale so the scanner would skip this folder. Generally only certain folders get changed and a lot of folders stay the same and we could optimize the scanning if we could direct it to skip certain folders.
- Related to this be able to change the order folders get scanned. Currently it seems to take the first added folder first and the last added one as last. If we could change the order it would help with the scanning. Alternatively change the order, last added first since that is usually the new content.
- Being able to select a folder to scan. This is a very precise direction to the scanner. As part of the menu on a library allow it to select a folder and it would only scan that one.
- Configuring libraries to not being scanned. This could be stale content that does not need to be scanned anymore. Alternatively allow different scanning schedules by library one of them being do not scan.
- Being able to breakup libraries. Allowing content to be moved from one library to another and with option 4 you could move content to a library that is not being scanned. Understood that this feature is a bit hard because of the way folders are associated to libraries and you would have to have a more granular approach or a option to move content.
Some of the features here are a but overlapping so when you do one you might not need the others but I though I give some feedback on options to improve the management of back end.
I appreciate any considerations
Cheers
