Scanning for new media

Server Version#: 4.118.0
Player Version#:
Can anyone tell me WHY the server starts scanning AFTER the new media.
For Example. If I have a new episode of Kids Baking…
The Server starts scanning at the Ms and has to go all the way thru a very large database before it finds the episode.
EMBY finds in in seconds. I like plex better but this is ridiculous.

On Windows, the indicated checkbox
grafik

causes Plex to only look into folders which have a newer “changed at” timestamp than they had at the last library scan.
This timestamp is changed, if anything inside the folder is created, deleted, or modified.
A changed timestamp is a signal for plex’s library scanner to look into the folder (and its subfolders).

For this to work as expected, you need to

  • avoid making unnecessary or even regular changes in your media folders (like by other media players/managers, the various “*arr” apps, or things like Plex Media Manager etc. [which is not a Plex product])
  • make sure that your media storage always has accurate time and date.
If your media are e.g. stored on a NAS without an internal buffer battery for the real time clock, it might have wrong date and time for a while after bootup until it has successfully synchronised its clock over the network.
  • non-Windows file storage, like NAS devices or practically anything running not under genuine Windows OS may handle time stamps not exactly as Windows expects them. It may be a good idea to revise the network protocol that is used and upgrade from SMB 1/2 to at least SMB 3, as the time stamp handling is improved on later versions.
  • follow the recommended way of organizing media. Adopting the principle of creating subfolders for each movie and each series season can help immensely on cutting down library scan time.

I have it that way on PLEX. I also have Stablebit running.
My system is a Sonarr/Radarr/SAB/Plex/Emby system.
This allows the easiest for me to run. All media is very organized.
My quess is one of the items is updating the POOL but you would think PLEX would catch that at the time. I have watched the system burn thru several times and it always starts after the New file and ends with the latest file.

It was only a suggestion to check because as I said. Emby finds it right away and both PLEX and EMBY look at the same POOL. If this was a conflict then I can live with it.
