Screensaver?

Hi All,

 

Is there a plan to (re?) incorporate a screensaver into PLEX? I really miss how the Apple TV used to show our family photos on the big TV in the family room.

 

I'd love it if PLEX did this since it is always on in the family room.

I would like to formally propose that PLEX Home Theatre have a user slide show style screensaver with the following features:

  • User definable directory for images to use for the screensaver
    • Multiple directories would be nice but not necessary
    • JPG, PNG, GIF (including animated).
    • TIFF or others probably not worth the effort
  • Simple effects for transitions between images, similar to "Ken Burns" style effects.
    • fade between images, slight translational movement during image display would be nice. 
  • Cutomizable timing:
    • Time per image
    • Time before screensaver starts
    • Time from when current built in savers start (dim, asset fan art) to when this one starts.
      • Example: dims with built-in after 5 minutes of no activity, image screensaver starts 5 minutes after that
  • Ask to switch user when stopping screensaver.
    • Make this possible to disable - option of user switch or remain in current user without prompting. 

I think those are the basics and likely a lot of work per feature to get started.

There are screensavers in PHT already. Well, Dim and Library Art (fanart). Are you specifically wishing for one that shows your family photos, or are you talking about another client?

Yeah, just something that'll grab a directory of images, and randomly display them on the screen in lieu of the dim/fanart function would be plenty for my purposes. Fade in/out would be nice.

FWIW, I'm running the latest PHT on a Mac Mini running OSX (currently Mavericks, will upgrade to Yosemite soon). This Mac also runs PMS.

I wanted to thank whomever added the current functionality. We've had it set up the last few weeks and it is great having our own custom content showing on the screen when the system is not in use. It is much appreciated!

If I could ask for one more addition it would be for screensaver styles that do more than just pop the images up on the screen.

I usually have my Mac set to "Ken Burns" in the screensaver settings but any additional functionality for fade in, fade out, scaling, etc. would be awesome.
