SDR to HDR not working anymore

Last few weeks I started using Plex HTPC mainly because SDR was looking so good on it as it was doing some kind of SDR to HDR conversion under the hood (while still direct streaming) and it was looking really good (on HDR 10bit+ screen).
But this week Plex HTPC got updated but also nvidia graphics drivers 551.23 were released which I installed as well.
So all SDR content is back to regular boring dull look again.
Anyone noticing the same?

I didn’t have any config tweaks related to gamma or anything before so it’s def software update that caused this. though not sure which one plex or nvidia. is there plex htpc installer repository somewhere?

maybe it was some kind of gamma curve it was applying under the hood but I saw some bandings on gradients in some videos until I enabled 10 bit mode on my monitor while having HDR on. then I assumed plex was doing some kind of sdr to hdr conversion similar to what nvidia doing now in new drivers with sdr videos in browser. highlights in plex were definitely brighter vs monitor in sdr mode

I can say it was doing something for sure as even sdr anime was looking way brighter and more vibrant comparing to sdr mode in windows

by setting vo=gpu in mpv.conf gamma becomes better for sdr content. blacks are darker and more correct but highlights are not as bright as last week. and i didn’t have this entry in config file before. weird
