Search by sequels

is there something to be done so a search on movies for the first movie in a series of movies can return all sequels?
a perfect example of this would be divergent, insurgent, and alliegant. honestly having random titles show up in the d section of movies is starting to get odd so i would prefer their sort titles remain as their movie title. when searching though, if divergent is typed, have the sequels show up as well. is this possible?
maybe by making a collection, but then the collection also shows up in the list of movies. can collections be hidden?

it seems i may have stumbled across the answer while defining my question.
you can create collections but now show them in the settings of a given library by selecting disabled.

  • disabled: Plex won’t show “inline collections” in this library – movies show as they used to do in the past
  • hide items which are in a collection: shows only the collection but not the movies of that collection… you’ll need to “enter” the collection to see those
  • show collections and their items: shows the collections AND the movies inside your regular library view.

this allows you to type in a movie title, given its the name of the title you wanted to search for and have the collection pop up with all movies for that particular series of movies.

this is an imperfect solution, but it does allow movies to keep their sort titles as their actual titles and searching to find sequels. i would be interested if anyone else has a better solution. really just need a ‘search title’ option like ‘sort title’

collections are documented @ https://support.plex.tv/articles/201273953-collections/ which work as you describe

as far as ‘search title’

if you are searching with most plex clients, you can also search by the collection name, and there is even an dedicated collection section in every library

… and if you really want to abuse Collections - the Sort Title Field will bring the collections up front/top, so you don’t have to search - but searching works just the same.
