Search Could Use Some Love

So this is a general statement, but one I believe to be true.

The search function could use some enhancement.

I say this because on large libraries, the results are often slow, and not optimal. It regularly doesn’t show partial matches (Movie called The Red Rabbit, search for Red Rabbit, no results)

The above is a fake example but shows kind of what I mean.

I suspect it to be two fold. 1. Search scanning index using an unoptimized method and 2. The regex (or similar) method for searching titles is not quite there yet.

I’m sure others can provide input.

I am NOT saying this doesn’t work, and I’m saying nothing bad about the software, just some general feedback.

I can’t speak to the performance on a large library. Mine is relatively small, compared to many users.

But I’m not experiencing the partial match issue you described. For example, I search for ‘vinci,’ and I get “The Da Vinci Code” movie, as well as tracks from the soundtrack album:

I tried this on Plex Web and the Android TV app.

I do think it is mainly when it is a very large library.

What is very large?

I have 90.000 tracks and search gives instant results.

Optimize DB doesn’t do everything it can because PMS is still running.

Give this a shot. It does a full export/import , rebuild indexes and verifies.

If the problem was fragmentation, It’ll start giving you results as you type.
I have a 340,000 episode test DB. I get results as I type.
