Hi guys, just installed Rasplex 1.6.1 on a Raspberry Pi 2, and everything worked nicely out of the box, played media lovely, remotely controlled great, no issues.
I configured it with a fixed IP address.
The only setting I changed after initial config was audio output from HDMI to Analogue out.
All was going swimmingly…
Then I shut it down, re-started it, and oh no spaghettio, it went wrong…
It will allow me into the settings, and it seems to have forgotten my login details, so had to go through the website PIN process again, but even that didn’t fix it… It still shows a list of search, search, search..
Any ideas before I re-format the SD card?
(PS: PLEX media server is on a headless Ubuntu server, network is all CAT6 Ethernet, no wifi in this chain)
I got that at one stage. I needed to change a setting on the server regarding “Networks that don’t require Auth” Or something to the effect. I added my network (192.168.1.0/24) and that fixed it. YMMV.
Ok, after re-signing in again, and entering the pin the list changes slightly:
It’s now: Search - Watch Later - Search - Watch Later - Search - Watch Later - Search - Watch Later -
I tried adding the Pi’s IP address to the “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth” box, but no change sadly. I assume this was the server setting you meant?
At the end of your IP address there, you have a “/24”, what’s that about?

It’s just shorthand for the subnet mask. /24 means a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 for a class C address (Which 192.168.1.0 is). That subnet mask means every address (256) in that network.
So my understanding is by adding the /24 the server will accept insecure connections form all IP addresses int hat range. I just added the single IP address of the Rasplex Pi, so hopefully would have achieved the same goal.
It’s odd how each time i switch it on, it forgets that I’ve already signed in… Like it’s forgetting some of the config. but it’s remembered the fixed IP address and audio output setting.. I keep on having to enter the pin on the website, but even that doesn’t fix it.
I’ve noticed the time is wrong, apart form one time it got it right, and my media appeared.. Maybe if the system closk is out it may be causing this??
I’ve set the regional settings up, but there are no NTP servers specified, all three are blank. So I added:
after reboot, the time is wrong, and I have a pile of Search Search Search, UNTIL, the network connection is established, time corrected, and hey-presto, problem solved!!
Phew…
But still, the “Sign in” option is still there (possibly a bug?), but I don’t care as it now reliably plays my media!
Having correct time is necessary when communicating with ‘Secure Connections’ (i.e. encrypted).
Network packets with too much a time difference are ignored, since they are considered a possible ‘replay attack’.
It might make a difference what your server setting for Secure Connections is.
