Second server for cabin area only

Hi,

I have a plex server running at home on my NAS device and it works fine. My problem is that I would like to have a second server setup at my cabin that only uses the wifi we have there. I have setup a duplicate server on an old mac and it seems to be fine, except I need to assign it a different name so it doesn’t conflict with my home server. I tried a free account for out there but it won’t let me use the app without signing into my account which takes me back to the home server. I am trying to reduce the data amount on my cell phone (which connects my cabin network to the internet) so don’t want to stream from home.

Any thoughts about how I can accomplish this - I don’t want to have to pay for two accounts for the same stuff. I also don’t want to have to shut down my home server when I am at the cabin.

Thanks,

James

There’s no need for a second account… you can assign many servers to the same account.

Two considerations:

  1. make sure to connect to the new server’s local IP when finishing the setup (e.g. http://127.0.0.1:32400/web if you’re on the same machine)
  2. with multiple servers assigned to your account, the libraries of both servers will be listed in the sidebar. You can customize the clients in your cabin to pin only the libraries from your cabin‘s server (and vice versa)
