Ever since Plex updated to the latest Plex Web version secure connections are no longer working for some of my remote users. They are unable to connect from Roku’s and Plex Web via secure connections. I thought maybe it was just the latest update so I downgraded back to 0.9.16.3 but same issue. I’ve signed out of my server and back in hoping it would generate a new certificate but that didn’t help either.
When my users try to access my server their connection isn’t even getting to my network (I’m watching my pfSense firewall logs). I normally can see an incoming connection via port 32400 from their IP address into my WAN connection. Now when they (or I as I test this) try to initiate a connection (either reloading PlexWeb or opening the Roku app) the only firewall log entry an inbound connection from Plex’s servers (54...*).
It’s pretty clear to me that Plex changed something on the backend. I also had to add another 5 or so IP addresses into my allowed_plex_hosts list for my server to stay published for remote access (this has happened in the past when Plex changed things).
I have exactly the same issue. Everything was running fine until last update. When I log into plex.tv with my account on my LOCAL network (both Wifi and LAN), it reports that my server is not available. If I log on via external hotspot, I can access the server as I’m used to (for instance enabling Hotspot on my phone)? On the server itself I can logon via 127.0.0.1:32400 and change settings. I have not changed anything in own network. It started this week to not be able to logon the server via web app for playback. PS4, APPLETV, IOS apps are working fine on WIFI / LAN at home. I really dont understand how I can access the web app when connection from outside my own network, but why it the server not available when using the web app on my macs on my localnetwork? Firewall setting should not be an issue when on my local network?
Specs: OS X 10.11.3, Macbook Pro and iMac 27"
Server: Macmini OS X 10.9.5 Plex 0.9.16.4
Only good thing is that external access is not broken, but I simply cannot understand why I can’t access the web app (new features) locally?
This is definitely an issue with the SSL certs since the Plex Web upgrade. This post on reddit is the EXACT issue I’m having.

+1 here
Did a lot of investigation, but can’t seem to get it to work with my own “owner” account. Friends however can log in to my server with a secure connection, but I can’t.
Same here, I don’t see any block in my pfSense logs, issue is on their side.
Update: accessing via VPN works, via clear net not.
According to this thread it may be a DNS issue. I’m going to test this in a few minutes on the network of one of my remote users having the issue.
Yup, it’s definitely a DNS issue. Changing to Google’s DNS fixes the issue for me. Unfortunately trying to get this done on a router level for some of my remote users will be a big problem.
When I changed to Google dns, nothing changed :S
Where did you change your DNS and what device are you trying to connect to your server with?
I changed my qnap DNS to 8.8.8.8 (plex server) and my computer where I use the plex web app.
This is happening to me and another fellow PlexPass member, since about a week ago. Plex.TV shows my server and my friends as “unavailable” until I enable insecure connections, then they all are accessible. If I log into my local server’s web console from the local server (https://127.0.0.1:32400/web) I show and can access my server’s information as “Nearby” and securely, but doesn’t list any other server. If I log into my local server’s web console from another computer on my local network (https://server:32400/web) it shows my local server and all shared servers as “Unavailable”. If I re-load and allow insecure connections, everything is accessible. The weird thing is I can access all of my content securely from the Plex app on my phone from both within my network and outside my network, no problem. I can also access everything from my TV Plex app (Plex for Samsung), but I have the TV app set for insecure only due to other limitations of that particular app. This issue appears to be related to the TLS change Plex made a week or so ago. I’m not sure if it is related to the security certificates or not, the fact that people are saying that changing the DNS servers fix the issue leads me to believe that the certificates may not be the problem, but is still yet to be verified.
Plex, please take a serious look into this issue, it appears to be a global problem
I am using pfSense with unbound (DNS Resolver) so I cannot change DNS when surfing in clear net (not using VPN).
I now have 3 confirmed users who can not access my server. Two are using Roku’s and one is using a Chromecast. I honestly don’t know what to tell them right now other than wait and hope that Plex fixes this issue on their back end because I can not walk every single one of my users through manually changing their router’s DNS settings (nor should I have to).
I can access my server for about 10 minutes and then it disappears. I’m not technical enough to understand all that is going on, just know for me it is very frustrating.
Any news on this topic? When will a forum post be submitted as a bug or issue?

My issue seems to be resolved by changing DNS though I still have users affected because I can’t access their networks to do this.
Your issue, however, appears to be a different one since you can’t access your server locally. Have you tried multiple browsers? I remember I had an issue once where I couldn’t access my server via secure connection with Google Chrome and I had to clear the cache before it would allow me to.
Ok, I tried again. Maybe I did something wrong with my previous test.
I can confirm it is the same issue. I cannot connect to my server with a secure connection. When I change the DNS of the device to 8.8.8.8, I can.
It’s not possible for me to change the dns in the router. When I use a cellular connection (my phone) I can’t even change it at all. So it would be nice if this issue will be fixed.

Do you not have admin access to the router to change it or what?
I have to say though that regardless of this “fix” someone from Plex needs to comment on this issue because we should not have to make these kind of network changes just to connect to our own servers.
I have admin access but I’m not allowed to change the dns servers from my ISP

That sucks. What ISP is this?
