Security, Credibility, Trust - EasyAudioEncoder

Why would Plex think it is OK to use executables which have been compiled with no identification attributes/tags? This is incredibly poor.

No product version
No copyright information

No wonder some anti-virus programs have identified “EasyAudioEncode.exe” as a virus.

[Sigh] :frowning:

If AntiVira was to use that info to detect a virus, I can very easy create one and name the product name BradGrove if I wanted  (As well as the other properties you are looking at)

AntiVira solutions looks at fingerprints and bit patterns, not copyright info

Yes I know… actually anti-virus software looks at many things, certainly more involved than just these attributes. However, if you had done a bit more poking around you would have seen that some anti-virus programs (eg: bit defender) have already identified this file as a virus (false positive). The point being, it’s very unprofessional to be delivering executables to customers without proper file properties.

I don’t disagree with you, but perhaps a better argument would not be the file properties, but that all executables should be cryptographically signed with an appropriate plex cert.

the main plex exe’s are, for example

but many of the others are not.
