Secutiry best practices

Hello everyone,

I recently installed Plex Media Server on a CentOS 8 server and when performing a port scan on the server, I verified that internal services were exposed to the internet. When removing the Plex service rules in the firewall, everything went back to normal.

My question is if there is any best practice to increase security on the server when the necessary ports for Plex are defined in the firewall?

Server Version#: 1.25.7.5604-980a13e02
Player Version#:

Regars,

If your Plex server is directly connected to the internet, you only open ONE port in the firewall: 32400
And only for TCP traffic.

All the other ports discussed in the above article are only used in a local network and should not be forwarded or exposed to the internet.

In other words: don’t place your server machine into the DMZ unless you know very well what you are doing.
