Segfault error

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645
Player Version#: 2.15 (Apple TV)

Was doing my daily routine of checking on my server and Plex and noticed this in my logs.

[33964.063230] Plex Transcoder[27403]: segfault at 18 ip 00007f16649ae6e4 sp 00007ffed982f2d0 error 4 in libavcodec.so.58[7f1664773000+3ed000]

Server OS is Mint 19.3.

The Plex server is still up and running.

Thanks

This, plus the issue you report, is typical of what’s seen with Mint.
It’s quirky and faults without reason or warning nor is it reproducable.
It is for this reason it can’t be supported.

As I’ve suggested to many, get on the mainstream - Debian or Ubuntu.
Mint is a derivative and they derived just a bit too much for use with Plex.

Would LMDE be more supported? LMDE isn’t based off Ubuntu and is based off Debian stable. It just has some Mint magic sprinkled on top.

I’ve tried straight up Debian and Ubuntu and can’t stand either one.

The supported distributions are:

  • Ubuntu 16+
  • Debian 8+
  • Fedora 26+
  • Centos 7+

What is it about those two distributions you don’t like? Both can have the Gnome 2 desktop (which, IIRC, is what Mint offers as default)

@ChuckPa

This might sound petty but I will never ever forgive Canonical for trying to shove Unity down everyone’s throat. It took them way to long to see how stupid that choice was but screw 'em. Yes, I hold grudges forever.

As for plain Debian, I can’t recall specifics but I remember having a miserable time installing v9 (or the initial release of 10) and it just left me with a distinctly negative impression of their offering.

I’m playing around with Debian 10.3 on a virtual box now and so far so good. If I can get my test install of Plex up and running on it and everything else I need, I might make the switch.
