i was just thinking, as i need to perform maintenance, iād like to put a notification up so users would know that the server may be unavailable during a certain time! or that a new item has been added, etcā¦

I want something Universal so any player will see it in realtime.
The easiest way i see it is by using subtiles! Why not force enabling a subtitle that contains the message?? It would then be viewable from the TV, apps, plexweb to people playing something.
I would really prefer a bulletin solution. Could have a forth tile at the same spot as Continue watching. Forced prio 1, and always first shown when back to Home. That would work cross platform.
Could be a permanent tile, like message of the day and/or activated when needed by admin.
edit: But, that is only useful when the server is live. A maintenance mode would be great as well, so I can tell Plex.tv that the server is down for any reason, and when someone opens Plex in any form, instead of just seeing it offline, information is viewable on main screen, and with estimated time when up an running again.

Too many times we have users reporting known issues or planned maintenance weād like to inform them on before shutting down our server.
I have to use plexpy and tell them to check this and I use a photo library and have snip it photos of instructions in there. Itās really tacky. As advanced plex is, a message would help.
For what itās worth, Ombi (formerly PlexRequest.Net) does this. In the settings turn on landing before logging option. You can customize what the message says as well as having the message display at certain times or not. BEST of all, to log into Ombi, you use your plex credentials. I do believe the landing page gives you the current status of the PlexServer as well. Best part if you donāt want your annoying cousin requesting porn all the time cause he thinks itās a funny joke, set access to āRead Onlyā so he only gets updates. It other cool features too. Hereās the link. No I am NOT affiliated with it or him, I was āadhoc-ingā a bunch of programs/solutions when I stumbled onto this, Ombi. Problem solved and way better than I could have put together. As good as Ombi is, it requires the users to check a second site, http://yourdomain.com:3579 or whatever.
People are lazy, they donāt use my Plex because they are tech savvy, or interested in performing several actions from their part 
They use it because itās easy, getting there with a push of a button (or icon in the drawer ).
We need a solution, where notifications are integrated in Plex itself.
Edit: Another notice, this only works well if the user uses the browser. Most of my users use Smart-TV apps, phone apps or/with Chromecast and Apple TV.
Otherwise, the function of the product is great, with reporting tools for issues or requests. I will try to get it in my users head to use, but it might only be used as a reporting tool, not status tool.

100% Behind this, it cant be that hard to program really and it would be a great way of not kicking all my mates and family off without warning! Just let us leave a note on the dashboard that shows up on any device, sorted lol.

I love this feature and was going to request it myself. I run a server with almost 2000 movies and many full TV series and musicā¦ I have about 25 friends that use it. I would LOVE to be able to send messages to them when they are online.

To send a message PER USER while they are connectedā¦ Could pop up in the corner of their show/movie/etcā¦ for times when as the owner I just want to say āHELLOā¦Youāll love this show/movie/albumā

Set up a SERVER message that would be shown to each user upon their connecting to the server. Great for server status messages, etcā¦

Ability to send a message to ALL connected users at one time for āemergencyā information. This would be a message that would either show up as a āSUBTITLEā style message for X number of seconds (set by server owner) or would actually pause the movie/show with a message box over it until clicked off by the user. This would allow the owner to send out notices of server maintenance or service outages, etcā¦ to users BEFORE they happen.
