This would be a great feature not only for the above mentioned reason’s but also if the users could let the administraor know of a poor quality file or wrong language etc.
So is this still really being ignored…?
Would be such a great feature I had to move not so long ago server was down for a week. Would have been great to be able to send something.
Definitely useful when you have remote users and plan a maintenance period
this needs to be a thing. currently I have to text/email users and let them know… or just have them text/email me after the server has gone down for maintenance 
I just want a way to give my users really basic information. I don’t need to “chat” I just want a way for the server to be able to deliver some information about what is going on / who to contact about the server / etc.

I think it would be a nice addition to that to set an maintanence message as well.
If you open the app /webapp or else the configured message is shown on top of the message that the server isn’t available.
This would involve some kind of Plex.tv backend service, which stores the message.
Dont know if this should be an extra feature request, but it fits here a little

Yes DEFINITELY a great idea…SO WHY ARE WE BEING IGNORED??? I only use Plex Pass for family and friends It would be great to let then know when I do an update or modem reset!!!
Come On PLEX get it sorted with the MILLIONS you have taken from us as well as investors!!
Love the idea… don’t know how many times I’ve been running updates and “fixing” a problem when my phone starts blowing up with friends and family saying PLEX is down.
I vote on this. I actually was going to post this same request now but since this request is still posted I will just add my interest in this as well. Mainly because of maintenance. It would be nice to send messages to my guest users about upcoming maintenance.
This needs to be implemented! I wanna be able to warn users that there will be a planned maintenance.
I’m not sure if everyone realizes, but, while you can’t send overall
messages to everyone, you can use Plex’s web interface to look at what’s
playing and “Stop Playback.” When you click “Stop Playback” you are
prompted to optionally send a message to the user.
This request was opened November 2012… Guess it’s NOT going to happen. What is the point of having a feature request if it’s going to be ignored?

This is an Awesome idea. You’d be surprised how many of my “friends” don’t come back quickly when I have to perform maintenance. They often think the problem is on their end and inevitably start tearing apart the config on their clients. Would love to have this!
I would really love to have this feature. My friends/family get frustrated thinking there is a problem with their network connection. I just want a simple way to alert them about a maintenance session.
I’d want my server messages to list that day’s scheduled programming, and to ask not to watch anything during those times (my server crashes when someone watches something while something is recording)
