Send server messages

Yes please.

OMG, yes! I’ve been wanting something like this forever!

Yes like this for example!

This would be amazing even if it was just for reboot notifications.

+1 for this feature.

I’m looking for the exact same thing

I support your idea. I do have to mention I message my Plex users through a 3rd party app, but it can seem overwhelming receiving emails or push notifications.

Maybe instead of push type notifications, we were given the capability to have a banner on the home page that we can edit, allowing photos, gifs, text, and the capability to post banners automatically by time or event.

Thoughts?

I love that example pic!! It seems like it would be such a simple/easy thing to add in… Maybe a Plex Dev could chime in and explain why or why not it would be something realistic to build into the platform.

Would love to see this! Nearly 7 years later… lol :joy:

I think it’s crazy that Plex, amazing as the software already is, does not feature a way to send messages to the users or create a default welcome banner of some type. I’m going to sound like a broken record saying, a feature like this is long overdue.

At least we can send a message while ending their stream. But it will be hard to do it for everyone if like 10 streams are playing lol

This is a long overdue item of significant importance. As others have already echoed, this item is of critical use during peak hours, or during severe (impacting) maintenance. Aside from this, as hosts we must occasionally pulse users to aid them in improving playback, among many, many other examples users have put here to motivate the development team.
Please consider us hosts, it’s not all about the users

I can see why this feature may be difficult to implement due to the many client and server platforms Plex is on, coupled with all the terms of usage, permissions and even legislation’s involved. If the main goal is communication, especially for downtime events, then maybe a simple solution would be the ability to send mass Emails to members that you have libraries shared with.
Sending them directly to clients is fruitless if they aren’t currently connected/streaming and setting a MOTD or login message is also useless if the server is down at the time they connect (Without needing a backbone server just for messages). With this method, you can send an Email without directly needing their Email address. Plex simply sends the message to the user account and the message is then re-routed to whatever Email they used to sign up with. This way users have the option not to need to share their Email addresses and the server will not require it to send one.
This essentially bypasses the need for Plex clients to become pseudo social media apps, even though a push notification can be added to the Plex clients that support the function.
Although, social media mixed with entertainment media? Future business model?

I would absolutely Love this feature as it would save me from sending out emails and text messages to friends and family i have on my server…

Great idea :bulb: need this for plex pass users

Either a right click send announcement notice or mass announcement even with limited characters would be great, like you get when ending a stream as a short notice.

I also Agree that having a ā€œMaintenance Modeā€ that disables streaming and the capability to have a notification sent out before and a displayed message during would be great.

I share my account with around 4 family and friends (not including in house), Having this would mean if they log in during maintenance they will see ā€œMaintenanceā€, if they are on before I start they will be notified.

Would be a cool feature.

I would love to see the feature, something like this with an announcement page in plex that would show all new and past announcements and the times posted

Yes, please something that makes it so I can pass a maintenance message on to remote viewers.

Wouldn’t it be nice if they’d just use the new (2019/07) Notifications function for this? UI from the server should be minimal.
