As you say, 7 years is a long time and reading the whole thread is too cumbersome. Has anyone seen any feedback at all on this request from the Plex team?

Yes this would be a great feature to have in Plex.
So if we have push notifications integrated now for new content, let us now be able to write custom push notifications. You guys are literally 1/2 way there now.

+1, I’m surprised this still hasn’t made it. this option would definitely help me. as I have well over 25+ friends/family/coworkers all over the USA, so sending a message when they use plex to connect to my server about an update or a new file etc…
Also if they can leave a message for us if a file is broken or link is not working would be helpful too.

We definatly need this yesterday
It’s been 6 years since this was suggested, everybody wants it - why the hell has it not been implemented yet?
I also want this. Just got a message from my ISP they’re gonna be down for maintenance on Monday, and I know I’m gonna get calls from friends and relatives asking why it’s not working.
Similar - having some electrical work done on my house next week so need to shut Plex down, it would be so easy to just have a simple text broadcast to all my users when they next log in.
450+ votes over 7 years - I scrolled back 2 years and not a single Plex employee post, is this even under consideration

Come on, this has got to be one of the easiest features to code. There’s already a notification icon where Plex sends us announcements. Let’s use the same one and let Plex server admins send announcements to their users!

Eg. sending a notification of new library content of or upcoming shutdown or something.
Should be pretty simpel!
+1 I think this would be a great implementation. I know you can cancel someones stream and send a message to them. But, it would be nice to be able to send a message to a user WITHOUT canceling their current stream!
+1 for me. I was just about to write up a feature request and came across this in my search.
I love this idea. I share with 25 friends in 3 different countries, would be amazing to incorporate some api notifications like Tautulli has, but we could start with simple messaging, then move towards custom notifications, so we could decide what information goes out to the users, like i added 5 movies but only 3 are new so i want to notify the users that these recently released movies are available in plex. then i could do a separate notification to the user i know love older movies and i can notify them of the other 3 older movies i added. This type of messaging inside plex would be amazing!

7+ years on, it’s still a great idea. I’d personally use it for server maintenance announcements, upcoming content, instructions, and content requests.
