Separate versus joined account for second server

I have a Plex media server on my home network. I plan to copy the content to a new Plex media server which will be gifted to my parents at another location (another network). What are the pros and cons of creating a stand alone plex account for my parents versus adding them to my account?

If remote access is working, you want separate accounts. Simply because so that your parent’s activity doesn’t influence the “watched” status on your media (and vice versa).
It is very annoying to lose track of which episode of a series you have already watched…

On the other hand, having a common account would make things kinda easier for you to administer. But this would then again require some kind of remote access, which brings us back to argument #1.

you can have multiple servers on one account.

the databases do not have to be the same (although I suppose you could start out with a copy of the original db).

separate servers do not share watch status, so not sure what otto is meaning?

as far as whether to create a new separate plex account for your parents, it really doesn’t matter one way or the other, other than the remote administration (if on the same account, then both can be managed via Plex Web.

with separate accounts, you would need to sign out the browser of one account and back in with the other (or use incognito).

there is no way to keep 2 server database in direct sync, if that was your ultimate intention.

keeping content in sync can easily be done outside of plex via vpn+rsync, or just bringing an external drive to copy whenever your visiting.

Of course you can.
I have 4.
You just don’t want to try and making them use a common database. But that is not the OP’s goal here.
