Server changing movie name

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309-f5213a238
Player Version#: Roku

I use Plex mainly to show home movies on my Roku TV. Many are either of my immediate family or extended family. For my immediate, I just use Family in the file name. For my extended family, you guessed it, I use Extended in the file name. For one movie, the word Extended does not show up in Roku. On the Plex web app, it also does not show up, but I can get the movie info and the Extended is there. Is there something special about the word Extended that Plex treats different in file names? If so, I do I get the Exteneded back?

As for your issue… I take it you have those titles/information as embedded metadata within your files? Are they all the same format (e.g. mp4/m4v vs. mkv)? Plex only reads embedded metadata from certain file types (mostly mp4, m4v and mov).

PS: at some point you might want to update your Plex Media Server… 1.18 is getting older by the day

As far as 1.18 goes, a newer version has not made it to the official repo (https://downloads.plex.tv/repo/deb) yet. A apt upgrade plexmediaserver says 1.18 is the latest version. I like to use the standard repo so I don’t have to mess with .deb files and all the admin work that goes with them.

As for the meta data, I don’t set metadata on home movies. (Seem a little pointless to me.) All the rest of the movies default to the file name since there is no metadata. However, the server does not seem to like the word Extended in the file name.

I cannot reproduce this.
I just copied one of my home videos, removed all embedded metadata and renamed it to “Hello Hello Extended.m4v”. Plex scanned the folder and added a new item called “Hello Hello Extended”. This is an “other videos” type library with Personal Media agent.
Can you confirm this file has no embedded metadata (some apps you might use to prepare the files might write something into the files)?

Note : Our build system changed starting with the Plex Media Server v1.15.0 release. Users who were updating via the repository prior to that release will need to do a one-time, manual confirmation of some changed values. See our forum topic for instructions.

Typo in my sources file. (extra trailing /). Upgrading to 1.19 now.

I was able to fix the “Extended” issue by adding the title metadata and then refreshing the metadata. No my fav solution, but it works.
