Server Version#:4.147.1
Any assistance is appreciated.
Having issues with the plex server. No matter what i do i cannot get it to stay stable for anything over say 30 seconds.
After initial purchase of the life pass and initial stability issues, i have had it stable for about a week, Now, no matter what i do there is now no sustainable stability.
Port forwarding is enabled on router. IP address is stable. Did have a VPN engaged with an exemption for plex. Have since turned it off and still unstable., All firewalls on my system (win 11) have been turned off for plex.
The server itself stays ‘up’ but remote access drops out after a brief period of time.
Public IP is stable
Port forwarding on the router is on and UPnP is supported.
Plex server has static IP on the router / home network.
VPN has exemption set for Plex. Having the VPN turned off or uninstalled made no difference.
Plex server is latest version.
I deleted and reinstalled the server software and that seemed to fix it until the computer its running on re-booted (about 12 hours). Server didn’t auto allow remote access connection on reboot / startup. Manually enabled remote access but holds for about 30 seconds before dropping out again.
Ignore the“successful“ remote access if it drops out after a few seconds (or within 1-2 minutes). That’s just Plex listing an „optimistic“ green status while it’s testing your connection.
Go with UPnP or a manual port forward. You don’t need both.
I recommend to use a forwarding rule… just make sure it’s actually visible from outside your home network (e.g. using a service like canyouseeme.org). While doing so, also check if the public IP recognized by canyouseeme.org matches that seen in your PMS remote access settings and your router’s WAN IP… especially if there’s a VPN in your equation.
If you’ve seen it working for hours and subsequently failing, there could be a problem with your local IP reservation fo the PMS host (sounds like the host might get a new ip)
firstly thankyou very much for taking time to assist, i really do appreciate it.
I’ve used the UPnP option, not manually set it as it is showing it forwarding to port 32400. Sorry for the confusion but that’s what i was referring to.
Tried looking for the port on canyouseeme.org but no matter what port i put in i get “Error: I could not see your service on….”. The IP on that site is the same as displayed on my router which is the same as displayed on a public IP page such as whatismyipaddress.com .
I have taken the VPN out of the equation all together at the moment to see if that was having any effect despite having tunneling exemptions set for plex.
When i reboot the system or manually start plex it appears there’s no automatic connection or engaging of remote access (would have thought there was) and i get the following screen shot.
Although it perplexes me as to why it says its not available outside but yet disable it, the only option is to click disable to which i then get this screen
Success i would have thought but leaving it on that screen, or clicking anywhere else in the settings menu i go back to the first screen displayed above.
Running windows 10 with all firewall permissions granted and plex added to the ‘do not disturb’ list on AVG.
In relation to the double NAT comment on the screen shot, my ISP doesn’t use CGNAT. I have an NBN supplied modem on the wall then the ISP supplied router which the UPnP is enabled. From checking other posts and support articles, in short, if the public search of the IP address and the router IP address match then double NAT or CGNAT are not in effect???
