Server Displays Wrong ID3v2 embedded image as Cover

Server Version#: 1.25.3.5409-6000
Player Version#: Version 1.39.1.2763-300bb607

Hello,

I’m reporting this here only because I’ve verified that the problem exists across all of my clients: iOS, Mac, xBox, Samsung, etc. Please move if I’ve chosen the wrong forum for this post.

I have Plex Library set to prefer local images from audio file metadata.

Cover Art for albums of files containing more than one ID3v2 embedded image are shown with the WRONG IMAGE.

Plex prefers ID3v2 embedded image COVER BACK over COVER FRONT, and prefers OTHER or UNSPECIFIED images to either of these.

I have checked album cover ID3 in the files is set as $03 Cover (front) using MediaMonkey.

The following image is a screen capture showing that Plex uses the OTHER art instead of the COVER art for an example album, “Fly By Night” by “Rush”.

The contents of ID3v2 embedded images are shown here using MediaMonkey.

This sounds like something I reported more than 6 years ago. I don’t normally use embedded images, so I never knew if they fixed it. Apparently not.

Thanks for confirming. How does one draw appropriate attention to a verified bug?
(I don’t have any experience with this forum to know how responsive the developers are.)

Can anyone tell me whether or not Plex staff monitors this forum? Is there something more that I should do with this bug that was confirmed by another user?

I think they see most issues, but it’s a little hit-and-miss whether they’ll respond.

For an issue like this, I wouldn’t expect it to be a high priority. I don’t think a lot of people go to the effort of embedding multiple images in music files. Personally, I go for local, unembedded files.

I deleted my previous post. I have nothing new to add.
