[Implemented] Plex Music Files Tag Embedded Cover Art

Hi,

All my music files have correct cover art tags embedded in each individual files.

I know this for a fact as I run my entire library on multiple platform and applications (MAC, iTunes, Windows, MediaMonkey, Google Play Music and even old Winamp). All these different platform show correct albums cover art for all my music.

However once I added my music library to Plex I noticed that a significant number of my albums have incorrect or different album art.

I have all the correct settings in the agents also prioritise Local Media Assets everywhere as well.

I have found the source of this issue. Most of my music albums have a folder in them called Images which I keep scans of the booklets and album covers.

I have noticed now that almost on a random bases Plex assigns one of the photos in these folders to some of the albums instead of using the embedded cover art in the tag.
I have to insist that it does not happen in all cases.
Once I remove the Image folder and refresh the Metadata it reads the cover art embedded in the tag.

I also noticed that all these images are in the Poster section when I go to edit.

The folder structure of all my music library is like below:

First Folder: Artist
Second Folder: Year - Album
And inside of each Year - Album folder I have the Tracks and also another folder called image as explained above.

My question is this:

Is there anyway to force Plex to only read the embedded cover art and use that rather than all these other random behaviour?

Any help is very much appreciated as this is very frustrating.

I believe it’s hard-coded to prefer local files over embedded art. It used to be the other way around. The reason for the change is that embedded art is generally low resolution, and looks terrible when displayed on a large screen, like a TV.

Thanks beckfield. So does this mean that there is no way that I could instruct it to only look to the embedded files?

All my cover arts are of high resolution and quality.

To the best of my knowledge, no, you can’t do that.

Do you really insert high resolution images into all your music tracks? That’s got to eat a ton of disk space.
