Am I doing something wrong or I can’t run this manually?

If you are in the folder you need to add a ./ Before the command
Is there anyway for us to add a bug report for Plex to take a look at and fix this in the next update?
I’ve been trying to find a way to do that without success. very frustrating!
First sorry for the wait, I tend to give some daily attention to FreeNAS/FreeBSD topics, but I’ve been away a few days, hopefully I can help you guys now.
Manually trying to run the binary will not work, we provide a start.sh script in our tarball, but it seems this is removed by the port , but perhaps logs are enough 
I can’t seem to repo the issue with this version, It starts fine for me, can any of you post the last PMS logs after they attempt to start?
It should be in /usr/local/plexdata/Plex Media Server/Logs/Plex Media Server.log (or /usr/local/plexdata-plexpass/Plex Media Server/Logs/Plex Media Server.log depending where you installed/ which port flavor you’re using.
Also FYI, pkgng keeps older versions of the txz in the cache dir unless you wipe it, look in var/cache/pkg/ and you should be able to roolback using pkg install PATH_TO_TXZ

Also, I was unable to revert back to the old version – Had to revert to an old snapshot.

I was able to rollback to an old version using these steps you provided and my server is now up and running again however I am now afraid to update it again since issue might come back. I saw some people complaining about this issue here so we might have a bigger problem. As per logs, very similar to what lastb0isct posted… in my case it stopped updating that log on June 1st right after the update… this is what I see mainly:

Looks like the system plugins (or rather agents) are missing, can you do:
ls -lah /usr/local/share/plexmediaserver-plexpass/Resources/
@Rod_Plex in you’re case it seems to be looking for the wrong plugins folder, this is the correct one:
ls -lah /usr/local/share/plexmediaserver/Resources/ |grep Plug-ins
drwxr-xr-x 20 root wheel 20B Jun 6 01:22 Plug-ins-78232c603
And the one I get from installing the pkg via FreeBSD repo, now I using the plexmediaserver one not the “flavour” port so maybe there’s something wrong with how that one was build. I’ll try to grab them directly and unpack to compare.
As for you @lastb0isct it seems to be trying to load the correct one, so that’s even more odd, can you paste the output of the ls command I ask above? I wonder if the Plug-ins dir is entirely missing.
There also a big change this is due to corruption of the dir do to previous upgrades with custom scripts in which case the solution migtt be:
service plexmediaserver-plexpass stop
pkg remove plexmediaserver-plexpass
rm -rf /usr/local/share/plexmediaserver-plexpass
This will make sure the install dir is totally cleaned (pkg remove or upgrade only removes whatever was installed from the previous version that pkg installed).
After cleaning then do pkg install (this applies to portupgrade too btw) so you would need to run both those commands and then portupgrade.
So if you guys want you can paste the output of teh ls command or just try this and see if it works
P.S. I’ve unpacked the txz from http://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:11:amd64/latest/All/ and it looks good:
I will have to test this out…Quick question though are you trying this in a Warden Jail? I am still using Warden Jails…sadly, haha. Going to migrate to iocage one of these days or even my docker VM.
No, FreeBsD iocage jails and freebsd host with work.
It’s shouldnt make a difference if the problem is the plugins dir.

I tried to update it again to check if it’d work by running pkg update/upgrade and it broke… I think there is something wrong with the update mechanism that is either not extracting everything or putting folders on the wrong location… see logs below… any ideas?

So it seems by running pkg upgrade (to get v.1.15.6.1079), Plug-ins-fbfb913f7 gets either moved or deleted.
The correct version is Plug-ins-78232c603 but if you have more then one Plug-ins dir there it will create issues.
So if you:
pkg remove plexmediaserver-plexpass
rm -rf /usr/local/share/plexmediaserver-plexpass
pkg install /usr/local/share/plexmediaserver-plexpass (which will get you 1.15.6.10.79)
What do you end up with in now?
ls -lah /usr/local/share/plexmediaserver-plexpass/Resources/ |grep Plug-ins
Actually wait a second are you saying that simply doing pkg upgade got you in this state?
If so it seems like there must be something wrong in the previous package, so if possible can you try something for me?
Can you rollback to the working version (btw can you tell me which one it is? so I test the same) and then run the pkg remove command and then ls? Is there anything still left in the dir?
If so we confirm pkgng is not cleaning the old install properly on upgrade!
The good thing is the same commands I provided will fix this, but the bad thing is that there is no other way to fix it since we have no control of this from PMS it self, but perhaps the port maintainer could do something via a pre-install script in a future port upgrade…

So I just double checked and PMS actually looks for the correct hash that was bundled with package (so version 1.15.6.1079) should be looking for the correct PATH, even if there’s another plugins dir there.
Can someone in a bad state provided me a full log?
Ok so 4610c6e8d is from 1.15.5 so rollback to that, run pkg upgade, service restart!
And all good…
So unless you are not restarting PMS after the upgrade (in which case it would still be using the old in memory binary) I don’t see a way to replicate this, its not a PMS nor a port issue!
@mikec_pt I wasnt having any issues with plugins. I did have an issue mentioned earlier in the thread regarding the lbdl.so.1 library not being found.

Running FreeNAS version 11.2-U3

When I copied the library into the jail
cp /usr/lib/libdl.so.1 /mnt/tank/jails/plex/usr/lib/
Plex started right up.
I upgraded with pkg from version 1.15.4.919

There was some output during the pkg upgarde about python and my kernel version. I cant find the message in my console output.
