Server "Forgetting" media Exists

Server Version#: 1.41.6.9685
Player Version#: N/A

I recently consolidated movies from 2 folders(/media/Movies & /media/Movies2) into just one /media/Movies folder. “Movies2” had far more media and was the previous default location that movies made their way into.

I copied all the files from Movies2 in to Movies then ran a library sync. When the sync was complete I noticed the count was far lower than before. Plex only showed movies that were originally in the “Movies” folder not the new content copied from “Movies2”.

After some googling, I found suggestions that I should wipe the database and let plex rebuild. I shutdown my server and deleted the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases

During the rebuild all of my media seemed to appear properly, but once the rebuild was complete and the server was restarted we were back to square 1, Movies shown in the plex UI are far less than the movies in my Movies folder.

I have done the basics:

  • Ensure media is accessible by my mac outside of plex. I can open any file in finder and play it.
  • Ensure my plex server version is up to date
  • Ensure Mac OSX is up to date
  • Reboot my machine

Note: Media is mounted to mac via SMB share to a Synology Nas.

Other than doing a clean install of Plex, I’m at a loss on next troubleshooting steps.

Could be this:

Good luck!
