That would be me and I tested this on 2 different MacOS machines and both updated properly. I’m not sure what’s going on but I am investigating.
There seem to be a couple of threads here on the forum where users have had trouble setting up PMS 1.29.1** on macOS. (For example this one: https://forums.plex.tv/t/pms-1-29-1-6316-f4cdfea9c-setup-hangs-on-macos-10-14-6-mojave-mac-mini-2018/ )
Feels related…
@anon18523487 Thanks for your reply.
When you say you tested this update on two different macOS machines, can you clarify the OS(es), version(s), and builds that were tested? Model, year, etc.? Browser (Safari, Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.)?
FYI, the two mid-2012 Mac Pros that had the issue were both running macOS Mojave 10.14.6 (Build 18G9323) with AFAIK the latest Apple patches, with 48GB RAM and using the latest Google Chrome browser.
I’m happy to provide any more info you need.
The following website: Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More states that as of Oct. 19, 2022, Plex Media Server for Mac version 1.29.1.6316-f4cdfea9c is supported for OS X 10.9 Mavericks or newer.
That needs to be updated. The minimum requirement as mentioned in the release note starting with 1.29.1 is MacOS 10.11.
I am confirming having had the same issues after updating to PMS 1.29.0 and 1.29.1. The server settings were unavailable. I was not able to claim the server after resetting.
Only fix for me so far is rolling back to PMS 1.28.2.
Is there a fix for this in progress?
MacOS 10.14.6.
I also had problems with 1.29.1 and .2. “Server settings unavailable”. It’s the first time I’ve run into this issue so I spent an hour troubleshooting my network. I’m on Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7.
Solution was to download and install 1.29.0 from GitHub - axlecrusher/plex_download_urls: Archive of Plex mediaserver download URLs and turn off auto-updates for PMS
@anon18523487 Thanks for looking at this issue. You said:
The minimum requirement as mentioned in the release note starting with 1.29.1 is MacOS 10.11.
Can you clarify please? Do you mean macOS 10.11.x a.k.a. El Capitan or do you mean macOS 11.x a.k.a. Big Sur.
Almost all of the people complaining about this particular issue are running something as new as or newer than macOS 10.11 El Capitan but I haven’t seen anyone mention macOS 11.x with regards to this issue.
Drag that other Contents directory…
Brilliant! Thanks. In this fashion I was able to downgrade to 1.28.2.6151 (on Mojave, 10.14.6).
I thought the problem was coincident with “Upgrade Libraries” - which I finally screwed up the courage to try today - but I suppose not. I restored my data directory and preferences from a Time Machine backup. The Upgrade Libraries adventure can wait until this server bug is fixed.
Mac OS 10.14.6 here as well. Latest version 1.30 still doesn’t work accessing server settings, despite the changelog mentioning a fix to claiming a server on mac os.
Hi All - same issue for me on Mac Mini (Late 2012) Mojave 10.14.6 - can’t access server settings and claiming servers becomes an issue - FYI there is another thread covering the same thing here (Server settings are unavailable after last update. MacOS) which has simple instructions on how to downgrade to the last version that seems to work (1.29.0.6244)
I just did the roll back. Pretty much same setup as you.
Plex needs to get on this. Unacceptable.
We’ve identified 1 issue that may be causing this. For anyone affected, can you try using FireFox and see if the settings become available.
I can confirm that the problem persists even on Firefox 106.0.5 (64-bit), running PlexMediaServer-1.30.0.6359-1185e28d9-universal on a Mac mini (Late 2012) with macOS Mojave (10.14.6).
Ok thanks. So it’s not the issue we identified. Still looking. Sorry it’s taken so long.
I am having same issue, in that I updated to the latest version and now server settings are unavailable. I follwed instructions from https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/ however this was not successful.
If helpful MacOS 10.12.6 (Sierra)
But I don’t know what version I updated to or how to find it as “server settings are unavaialable”.
I accidentally deleted my reply. Basically it pointed you to the fix I wrote for older MacOS.
I experienced the same issue after someone in my family saw the “upgrade” was available while using Plex from our TV. I thought updating from there caused the issue. Tried some of the other suggestions of running the “deletes” from the Terminal, but that didn’t fix anything. Downgrading to 1.29.0.6244 did the trick for me. Running on iMac19,2 with Mojave 10.14.6.
Worked like a charm. Thanks very much! Been struggling with this for some time.
