Server move to new Mac

Hello.
Have already found / have read various instructions, but I’m not sure if they are still so current, or if they work well.

Basically, the old Mac mini is replaced by a more modern one.
Thus, the paths to the media library folders are the same and basically I just want the current settings, as well as the descriptions, cover ect. copy to the new Mac.
Also, the information, which series / episode one has not seen, should be preserved if possible.
So how do I make that most effective and sensible?
A DB backup by Plex is created every three days and is almost ready. (by “Scheduled tasks”).
Is this backup already sufficient and if so, how do you play this on the new server then again?

It would be nice if there could be a “Dummie” tutorial.

Have tried years ago after this guide here
Backing Up Plex Media Server Data

that did not work and I had to read everything again.

Thanks in advance

Try this one:

Ok I’ll try it.
A question about the update of the library:
In the manual, I should keep the path to the content first, create the new path, then start an update and then remove the old content.
For me, however, the paths are preserved accordingly and the content is not moved or copied to another location.
Does an update of the content then suffice and Plex takes over the old paths or does I have to hand over the path to the content?

And a second question:
Can I first clean up some folders in ~ / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server /?
For example the folder “Updates” or “Crash Reports”.
These contain a lot of data that are no longer needed, right?

If the external / network drives are exactly the same and (most importantly) are mounted with the exact same name/path, you might be ok to skip the step.
Beware… if they’re not, Plex won’t find your media and will show you empty libraries.

As for your second question: those two folders should be safe to clean up. Personally I’m not sure it’ll be worth the effort… while you might find loads of files, they shouldn’t be particularly large. Not in comparison to the other stuff you’ll be moving like downloaded posters/backdrops/extras/… or thumbs — and you definitely shouldn’t touch those
