Server Version#: Newest QNAP 64 Bit (Intel)
Player Version#: Android (Fire TV) and Playstation 4
A couple of weeks ago suddenly I started to notice issues with the image (especially fast movements with light/dark contrast developed severe blurring in form of huge rectangular clusters). I used so far the Playstation 4 App and never had problems. Due to the powerful NAS I suspected the Player App of the Playstation therefore I bought the Fire TV (4K version) which was a good idea: The glitches vanished (I noticed that the audio setting - I use a Sonos Playbar - have an impact on the overall quality of the image). Unfortunately the new issue with Videos slightly above 8 Mbps is that they stop playing after a couple of minutes because the server is not fast enough to transcode… I really can’t believe that the NAS isn’t powerful enough… Anybody out there with ideas/hints what I can try next to experience again a smooth Plex experience? Thank you!
What type of files are these that are being played? If you are transcoding locally, that’s not ideal. Make sure that PS4 and or the firetv have the audio/video settings set correctly in the app settings. Double check on plex server what your settings are as well.
I have my Xbox One X set to original quality and mostlly use MP4 files, but even most mkv that I have direct play as well. I am using a Windows 10 server (i5, 3.x Ghz, 16GB, 10TB)
The settings in both PS4 and Fire TV are correct (at least I hope so; I checked them all with the goal to achieve the most “direct” play/stream possible). Due to the fact that I use the Sonos Playbar I have to set audio to optical (only: AC3). This is quite a restriction of the Sonos system, however, it is the only way to get a real 5.1 surround sound into the Sonos system. I realized that this setting has a significant impact on the overall experience. But then again: I have no choice here.
The problem arises when the video has a bitrate higher than 8 Mbps and the audio is DTS. For instance this movie:

What exactly do you mean by checking the settings of the server? Are there settings that I should consider in particular?
