There are many times when I try to watch videos using the browser (player version above) when I receive a “Server not powerful enough to convert video”. Not always, but lately more often than not. This happens both in the computer where the server is installed as well as in a remote laptop and an android mobile device. It does NOT happen on a 10 year old Smart TV using Plex app via Amazon Fire (sorry, I don’t have the server info at the moment); I can watch all videos there just fine.
I have been reading several posts on the same topic, and I seem to understand that the every different setup affects the outcome differently so I wonder whether anyone with an understanding of technical concepts is able to explain what is happening in my case in an understandable way. And also, if possible, recommend any action to avoid this issue from happening going forward.
For the sake of assistance, before downloading the logs, I tried to access both a video which plays and another one that does not, in case different information is provided in the logs which helps to understand this case better.
Ghosts - S3 E5 - The Silent Partner direct streamed. Plex remuxed the container, but neither the video or audio transcoded.
The Neighborhood - S6 E1 - Welcome to the Foos Box also direct streamed with Plex remuxing the container, but neither the video or audio were transcoded.
You are running the 32-bit version of Plex: Mar 20, 2024 06:37:10.137 [2472] INFO - Plex Media Server v1.40.1.8227-c0dd5a73e - Microsoft PC x64 - build: windows-x86 windows - GMT 01:00
Download and install the 64-bit version from plex.tv. You can install it on top of the 32-bit version. The installer will recognize the 32-bit version and remove it from the system.
The 64-bit version has a more efficient transcoder. It will help with transcoding video.
This changes just the Plex binaries. It does not touch the Plex Data Folder.
The video that wouldn’t play is Haunting in Venice, is it not showing as failing in the logs?
I was not aware that I was running the 32-bit version! (double-glad that I shared my logs).
I downloaded the 64-bit version and, just like you said, the 32-bit one was uninstalled automatically.
Now I tried to play the a few files (Haunting in Venice, Lift, John Wick 4) and they all gave the same “server not powerful enough” error (on the other hand, Vacation Friends 2 did start playing normally).
