Server Version#: 1.25.2.5319
Player Version#: 4.72.0
I have been using plex for several years on the same server (Intel quad core 3.3 GHz, 16 GB RAM, Linux [Ubuntu], hardwired to 1 Gbps switch) with no issues at all. Recently, the Web player has suddenly started giving me this error message “This server is not powerful enough to convert video.” regardless on the video size or length (480p 30 min tv episode, 1080p 2 hour movie). I can’t get anything to play. That being said, it does still play on my Apple TV.
I have tried a number of things: “Disable video stream transcoding” (which is generally what I have it set to since we only watch locally), toggled hardware acceleration, enabled transcoding but at very low quality…nothing seems to work even though the server has been more than capable since I started using plex.
Prior to last night (2021-12-21) I had been running plex server v1.18 so I tried updating to v1.25 but that didn’t help.
There has only been one change to my setup recently but not sure how this would affect things. I purchased a new synology NAS (also hardwired with 4x1Gbps lines) and migrated all my movies to that and then setup auto-mount on the plex server to mount the network paths. To be clear synology is not running the plex server, it is simply providing the network shares.
One last note, all my movies are ripped as MKV files and those that I transcode (blu-ray, 4k) use the H.264 codec and audio passthrough.
I read some other users having similar issues recently but no concrete solution has been provided.
